I know the dog which is PRA: notfree for now. It is 1 of the dogs of the litter we had. It means the dog needs to be tested after 6 months again for PRA.

Re: The Maskhann's case

The problem I see here is not only using a dog with a known genetic defect, that will give the genes for this defect to all of his ofspring (if i am right heritability of monarchism isn't entirely known - but I will work from the assumption that it need to come from both parents) when looking at th...

Re: The Maskhann's case

Hmmm, but would a breeder be prepared to pay all medical costs, if they are some males with the same defect in the litter. It is not just a "simple" castration, but if 1 or both testicles are still somewhere in the body, it will be more expensive. As far as I know, it is not allowed to breed a dog w...

But what if you breed your dog and you have a litter of 8? How will you do that till the age of 10-12 weeks? Probably they will be able to climb out of the whelping box. If you do all the socialization. Well, you have to get them used to the leash. So you have to walk 8 pups and your own dog(s) seve...

Re: what age to send pups home

At what age do pups get their first shot in the USA? Here it is at 6 weeks, so that would be too late to start with visitors at the house. Here a lot of breeders allow visitors, when the pups are 3 weeks old. We also did. But we asked the visitors to put on fresh clothes before they came to see our ...

I'm not too worry about carriers of dwarfism in the Tamaskan breed since I've NEVER seen any dwarfs in this breed but like Lynn here said, one cannot be too careful. But I'm quite confident that no dwarfism is likely to show up in this breed. On a side note it already freaks me out that there are c...
