Nanna x Jackal is around 7½ months old now if I remember correctly (born a couple of weeks before my girl)

the same thought came to my mind, they could be lying about age. don't they have to contact the breeder before selling tho? shame there is no more info in the ad.

very strange. I wonder why she would be priced so low if she comes with paperwork, etc...
And I also wonder why they didn't contact the breeder first, so she could be properly re-homed.
She is gorgeous though - looks like she might be an Alba pup. :)

Could be, but why would anyone lie their dog 3 months older than it is?
the younger the more puppy charm it has hmm..

yes breeder has to be contacted..

From my knowledge, the only Aatus that are 10 months old are from Conchur and from looking at pictures of that litter she doesn't look like any from it. Possible maybe from Alba (who is no longer part of the Aatu)? I just wish the Tamaskan Rescue UK could adopt her to save her from any potential buyer like "you-know-who".

This add is posted in Euro's. Not sure where this pup is, but will give the number a call

ahhh, nevermind... I see she is in Ireland.

Hi Debby,

Thanks for your message. I couldn't believe it when I saw the ad. I tried calling the lady, but no answer unfortunately. The ad has been viewed 128 times in 20 hours, that is alot for that website for a rare breed. Trust me, I look at it quite a bit.

You said in your message that you called her. Did you get through to her at all? I would love to take her, she is absolutely stunning, I'm in love already. I can't understand the price though, it makes me suspicious. But anyway, I will keep trying.

Once again, thanks for your help, and if you speak with her, please tell her I will do whatever it takes.

Shane xx

Hi Shane :)

No problem. I sent her an email but I didn't try calling her. No reply to the email yet though.
The ad has been viewed a lot BUT I suspect most of the views are from people here on this forum
Anyway, I really hope it works out for you and if I hear from her I will tell her to get in touch with you.

Thanks Debby,

The girl will be back soon. I just wanna make sure I have all the right questions for her. She is a young girl and her mother doesn't like the dog..."needs too much attention"!!! :o So I have a feeling that this dog will not be up to date on shots etc and probably doesn't get what she needs in general. She probably doesn't even have papers or up to date health checks.

So, what would your advice be to me on this one? (Anyone???)

Would it be stupid of me to buy a dog whose pedigree I cannot check beforehand, even if it is just going to be a pet. I mean she could have poor hip scores and I wouldn't know. Or eye problems, epilepsy etc. I'm just too excited to think straight at this stage

So any questions that you would ask, please pass them on just in case I haven't thought of them? I'll be talking to her in the next hour.

Thanks

That's good news! If she's for sale due to family issues then that is a good reason to re-home her. I was worried it could be due to health problems. A young Tamaskan pup can be a bit of a handful (very active) and if the family is not prepared to deal with it then it is better that she is re-homed with someone who can handle her and who knows about the breed (like you!) :)

She may or may not be up-to-date on her shots but that is easily remedied and not too expensive. She probably doesn't "get what she needs in general" in terms of exercise - many people rush into getting an active arctic breed and then find they don't have the time... sadly, it's a common scenario. As for paperwork, that should have been handed over at the time of sale, when they got her at the age of 8 weeks old. It is possible that she is an Alba pup (purebred, but unregistered, since Alba is 'doing her own thing' these days without registering her puppies). But I would definitely ask where the pup came from (which breeder) and if she has any pedigree / background info for the pup. If she's just going to be a pet then paperwork isn't so important, though if we can trace her ancestry then it is possible that she could be officially registered with the TDR (if she is fully health tested) but, then again, if she's just going to be a pet it probably isn't worth the hassle.

I would just ask about any health issues and hopefully she will be honest and upfront. It is a bit of a risk but the Tamaskan breed IS very healthy overall so she'll probably be ok... I think this is one of those rare opportunities that are worth grabbing: good price, young pup, located in your region, looks like a purebred Tamaskan, etc. I would definitely arrange to go see her and then you can discuss everything in person and see the pup in real life, then you can decide to take her home or not. :)

Thanks so much Debby. That's great advice. I have just spoken to the girl. She doesn't really know much of the dog's history before she bought her. She bought her from a farmer in dublin. She said the dog was really scared of cars and people, which lead her mother to believe the dog was stolen at some point. :!:

She has been vet checked, and seems to be ok and she has had her vaccines. They seem to think she is perfect health wise, which is great. She will keep the dog for me until Sunday which is when I can make the 800km round trip.....soooo worth it.

I'll keep you all updated. :D

That is great news!! Of course... we will expect for you to regularly post photos of her here on the forum! :D :D
I'm so glad this story has a happy ending and I'm looking forward to seeing how she grows and develops.
kerry1 wrote:Sorry, I left out, she has no papers. Hopefully this can be sorted, if not, I'll still have a beautiful girl. :D
If she was stolen, it might be difficult to find out what breeder she came from originally BUT it is possible for you to have her DNA profiled (costs around £40 or so) and then we can compare her profile to those already on record, to see which bloodline she is from. If there's a match, it should be possible to deduce what litter she is from and when (exactly) she was born and then the official paperwork could be issued. Either way, you'll still have a beautiful girl!!

I'm so happy for you! And for her! :)

I also managed to contact these people. I spoke with the daughter who spoke English as her mother didnt. They are Lithuanian. She told me that she got the bitch 2 months ago from a puppy farmer in Ireland (there are loads of them out there) She told me that she was 'free'... dont know about that.
There are no papers with the dog and they no longer want her. I was also told that a man was coming to get her that would 'pay' them.....I hope that man is you Shane ;) Poor girl now deserves a much better home than she had. Wonder where she came from originally to end up in a puppy farm in Ireland.!

Thanks for your kind words everybody. I still can't believe my luck. As for a name....maybe Lucky would be more appropriate, but I'm heading towards Kiko or Kai I think. Then again, if I like her present name I'll stick with that for her own sake. I'm still waiting to hear back from the owner about her name.

Im so pleased to hear that the man picking her up is you Shane.
Lynn told me her owner wasnt interested in fussing around with people in England because someone was already interested in Ireland and we thought we may have lost our chance to find out more about her and make sure she finds the right home. Im so happy that she is not lost.

There’s a battle between two wolves inside us all.
One is Evil. It’s anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies and ego.
The other is Good. It’s joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness and truth.

The wolf that wins? The one you feed!

~ Cherokee Proverb

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity... I'm not sure about the former.

Hi everyone again. Sorry I've been away for the past few days, but I've been too
busy playing with Willow, my new Tamaskan (hopefully) pup. I'm very sorry for
not keeping you all updated, the days have been going by so fast, but I have her
since late Friday and she is everything I'd hoped for.

She really loves it here out in the country after all those months in a housing
estate. Her favourite part of the day is when she gets to play with all the
other dogs staying at my boarding kennels, though she is quite dominant with any
dog which I show affection towards, so she is jealous, and I'm flattered :D
While I'm on the topic of her not so good habits, I'll list a few more which you
are all welcome to advise on.

1. She walks between me and my other dog Gita if Gita comes looking for
attention, and sometimes bares her teeth and growls.

2. She has desperate seperation anxiety if I leave the room or when I go to bed.
She has scratched away quite a bit of paint from the kitchen door where she
sleeps, and howls and cries. I've given her rescue remedy as I've seen suggested
here on the forum but to no avail.

3. When visiting my parents, I picked up the cat and she grabbed his leg from
behind and tried to pull him from me. She also tried chasing my Dad's cattle,
though it looked more like a game. I locked her in a kennel for an hour for
that, but that was five minutes after the deed, so I doubt she connected the
two. So she obviously has a high prey drive which is unfortunate. Any help with
that and her dominance would be much appreciated.

4. She barks at anyone that comes to the house, even my wife when she gets home
from work, which is a problem when customers come to the house with their dogs,
as she can look quite intimidating. So for the time being, she's not allowed
outside when I go out to meet someone. Once they are inside though, she is fine.
Though she will keep away from strangers and can't be persuaded to come over and
say Hi to them up close.

But apart from that she's been brilliant and everyone that sees her loves her.
So are these common problems?

I've uploaded some photos for you all to have a look. Let me know if you think
she is a genuine purebred tamaskan. From what I can tell she is, though her ears
are a little big, reminds me of an Inuit.

Thanks again everyone, and sorry for being so slow to get back to you.

Hi again Shane. Thank goodness that you got her at last ;)
Lovely pics and she does look a nice girl. Her ears will settle as the ears grow first before the head catches up  She looks to be a good size too.

Sorry about her issues. You will certainly have your work cut out now getting her back to normal. Sadly you dont know what kind of treatment she has had over her small life so you will have to start from scratch and retrain her with sympathy. Best to join your local dog club and get her used to other dogs being around her and 'you'. You will need to act quick on this to nip it in the bud before she grows anymore and it gets harder to handle her.

Im sorry I dont have time for anymore advice as just getting ready to leave for the Euro Show but Im sure you will get lots of helpful advice on the individual issues from our forum members.

Good luck with her and keep the pics coming. Also you can send for a dna kit from me (when I get back) to see if we can trace her heritage.

Congratulations she looks lovely. I am sure she will get better when she has settled and realised she is safe and you are boss. Good luck.

So happy you have her now! :D
She looks gorgeous, I think she might be a 'pure' tamaskan.

You all must have nothing to do that you are so quick to reply :D
Thank you Lynn and everyone. I will ask you to send on a DNA kit when you return. That would be great. Talk to you all soon. I've got a dog to go play with.
