"Alaskan Husky" mix (Canada) - Deceased

Post by Katlin » Thu Jun 02, 2011 4:21 pm

This poor little guy is stuck in the calgary pound. I've called 3 times and they said as soon as he is up for adoption they'll contact me. Still another 7 days until he's up for adoption and then (fingers crossed) I can try to get him home :D if anyone else in Calgary is interested please contact 311!

Thanks, says that on the top post though I think *looks....* yep, right at the end there. But thanks :)

Yes he's amazing, I'm trying to arrange a visit for tomorrow. My parents don't like him though, he's too big so again if I can't talk them into it I'm hoping some other tam lover can get him. He hasn't had much traffic yet.

EDIT

So the first lady made a mistake, I spoke directly with a boarding guy and he says this is "wolfy-dog's" last day for his owners to pick him up. Today he's being vet checked. He will then be neutered and put up for adoption when he recovers. Apparently they just had a "tama-something dog lover" (as he said) just called and requested to also be contacted :)

If you can't adopt him, you could try contacting Kevin (Strider) in BC - perhaps he might be interested in this slightly older (neutered) male. :)

I have very said news about this little man. I have been searching the pound's website every single day since I posted this notice, I've seen several dogs go complete the check and go up for adoption AFTER this little man came in. I called and they said "we can't really divulge anything but he's not avaliable". One of the bylaw officers came to the clinic and I managed to corner him and found out that he was "very VERY skittish and toy possessive". The only conclusion that I can draw from this is that he has been euthanized. :(

Awww man.... I'm sorry to hear this sad news. :(
Really sucks - I know how it feels when you try to help but can only do so much.
At least he's in a better place now...

How sad and not to be given a chance when someone was asking after him is dreadful.

Ok, I've watched this thread, and have seen, now, all of the "that's so sad" posts. And you know what? It doesn't just make me sad.

It makes me @#%$! MAD.

Out of all of the thousands and thousands of animals that are hoping for a home, and the shelters and people that are spending time and care on them, why in the name of sanity would this shelter have made the unilateral decision that this particular dog was unable to be rehomed??????

The shelter had already demonstrated -- and acknowledged -- their own ignorance of the tamaskan breed.

They had already had at least two knowledgeable people call -- and show dedication by consistently calling -- and offer him a viable chance at a home.

Both callers had indicated that they understood the characteristics of the breed the dog most resembled.

Both callers had a support network & transportation and were willing to come immediately ....

.... and yet the common abandonment characteristics of "skittish and toy-possessive" precluded them from even giving either caller or dog a bleeping CHANCE to show any possibility of working well together? Neither caller even got the chance to SHOW UP?

Dumb. Wrong. Wow.

So, yeah, I'm mad. And I'm sad. And I'm sorry.

Mostly sorry.

:(

Colleen, you just made my night. See that's exactly what was going through my head. I told 2 different people that I don't CARE if he's skittish. Snoopy used to be a total s&!#t head until I trained him for 2 years (taking over for my mom). Toy possessive? Don't make me laugh. I didn't care if he had a couple MANAGEABLE problems but instead they took the easy route and put him down. I may not know the full story...but they didn't give me that story so I think me and the other buyer have every right to be annoyed, hurt, sad, and pissed.

colleen, you just said everything i didn't say... the reason for me not posting hear. they won't re home any dog who shows any signs of having behavioral problems as stupid a problem as it was.

i watched a program on unwanted pets, the shelter it started off at was 90% full with staffies and staffie x's and this one staffie came in who didn't pass the test to be rehomed. the only thing she did when meeting another dog was a silent grumble. even the man handling her said he could hardly hear it but he felt it vibrate down the lead. she didn't get a chance at a home because they said she was high risk to other dogs.

they should have at least called you to give the poor baby a chance, but it's always the easy selfish option because they can't be bothered... maybe there was more to it than the simple story you got but you could have been told either way.

It wasnt even like they were full and didnt have the space to take a dog that may be difficult to rehome. IF there were two people phoning and willing to take the dog on straight away its disgraceful that they thought the easy option was to put him down.

It is frustrating and it happens all to often... a lot of shelters excuse is that its a liability to them to re-home a dog or even cat that has issues  Which is a bullshit excuse if you ask me... Dogs could be retrained for better or worse. Send them to a rescue that willing to put the time in or screen people who are willing to put the time in.
