MORE ALBA DOGS NEEDING HOMES

Post by Blustag » Fri Jan 13, 2012 11:51 am

I have just had in the last 3 days two families with Alba dogs needing rehoming,

The first is a 3 year old entire male. Sire Moonstone Make me pure
Dam Lycan

A home is needed for him urgently as he is not good with the owners 3 yr old twins. Other than that he is ok with everything else. He is in the Criess
area close to Perth (Scotland)

The other that came in today is a 6 month old entire female who is close
to Aberdeen. She is suffering from separation anxiety and has had 3 homes
so far. She will need someone who is at home all day.

Please contact me for further details.

The owner reckons he will be fine with older children. He is just not good with
the two 3yrs old and growls at them.

3 )(*#@ families?! That's completely insane. I understand re-homing is sometimes unavoidable but people...know what you are getting into when you get a dog

Wish I could help, I need to move out first.

Both these dogs need rehoming quickly. Spoke to the owner of the male
last night and he is willing to drive anywhere in the country to deliver his boy.
He is a nice man and keeps Samoyeds. He is working away a lot and his wife
having the small twins cant cope with the male growling at the children which
is understandable. They are both gutted but have come to the decision that
the children come first. Better that than a tragedy further down the line possibly.

It's a shame I can not get my husband to agree that Saga needs a friend :(

Do you have any photos of them? That might help someone say yes.

Rehoming abroad would be very costly as the boy is adult and the female is well grown too so flying them anywhere would be expensive.

Shipping adult dogs by plane cargo IS super expensive but I think IF you can get a cheap ticket to fly there in person, and 'collect' the dog (bring it back with you on the same plane) then the cargo costs are only 'excess baggage' which might work out cheaper in total (your ticket + excess baggage) than simply paying to have the dog shipped to you alone. Might be worth looking into, but it also depends a lot on cheap airfares / last-minute deals / etc.

Those in Europe might be able to drive over and collect. Still adds to the expense, but not as much as air fare.

When Finch and I flew home to Canada from the UK last weekend I made all the arrangements of myself and we flew through AirTransat from Manchester to Toronto and they have a set fee of $250 CAN to ship any size of dog. They pampered Finch and made sure to give him water when he landed and even helped me get him through customs. He came to me in September suffering from severe separation anxiety and we've worked hard to help him get better and I was afraid his anxiety would resurface after the trauma of the flight, but when I picked him up he was still his happy, confident self. You have to book the space for the dog in advance because they will only take 5 dogs per flight. I was a bit nervous about leaving Finch in the hands of the airline workers rather than going through a pet transport company and I was very lucky that it worked out so well - but if the only way these dogs can find a proper home is by travelling overseas and the only issue preventing this is money I would recommend AirTransat (the Manchester staff in particular were outstanding!)

Great that you got Finch through with no problems. I also use Manchester
Airport regardless of which part of the country I am living in. I use Pat
at Skymaster Cargo who specialises in every animal imaginable and have used
her for over 30 years with not a single incident. :D I highly recommend them.

The male has not. His owner mailed me last week to see if I had any contacts to help rehome him. He is 2 years old, not 3, as previously stated. He is nervous around their toddlers (twins) and growls at them, but the owners say he is ok with older children. He is ok with cats and other dogs. He is a bit of a puller and wears a gentle leader, but they are doing heel work with him in what time they have. They are really fond of him but (apart from the toddler issues) dont think they have enough time to spend on him due to the twins.

He has not been neutered, but I think they would consider it if it would help with the rehoming. He can be left alone and not be noisy or destructive. They have left him for 5 hours max.

He likes meeting new people.

If anyone is interested please let me know and I will pass on to the owner.

I have got a picture of him but photobucket is playing up and I cant put it on. I will try later. His sire is Odin and his dam is Lycan.

just to let you all know about this lovely boy. on thursday i spoke to 1 of the owners about rehoming BOOG. we had a lovely conversation and agreed that i needed to speak to her husband as it was him that used to do most of training with boog and he could give more details. i waited and by saturday night thought that they would not ring back. however sunday evening they did and i can confirm that BOOG is staying with them as he has made a great improvement with their twin boys and that the husband has a great bond and couldnt let him go without one more chance. i have asked them to keep my number incase they change their minds in the future. way to go boog and i wish them luck with his future training. x x

Just an update on Boog, I had emailed his owner to see how things were going. She says that Boog is doing really well and has calmed down quite a lot. He now joins in with the children playing in the garden and is really tolerant of being pulled and patted :)

They had contacted Liz (Alba, his breeder) and she gave them a lot of help in how to deal with him, which has obviously paid off :)

I called Liz on Saturday just to let her know what is going on. I didnt ask her if she wanted to rejoin at that point. She has had a lot of aggro in the past and I wouldnt expect her to jump right back in. I will bring it up with her soon, as it seems quite a lot of people would like to see her back (including me).

Just in case it is not common knowledge she was never thrown out but left of her own accord.

I dont know whether she currently stipulates her pups cant go to breeding homes. Have you heard something about that?
