Seppala Siberian Sled Dog

Post by Balto » Sat Apr 05, 2014 10:53 am

who knows more about them, are they FCI recognized, or they are within a mainstream Siberian Husky FCI 5.?

and anyone knows is there a kennel in Europe of Seppala Siberians?

FCI recognized Sib Husky and still a very well known bloodline in sleddogs.

I believe that there are seppla dogs in the polar speed huskies behind the tamaskans and in new foundation dog Ninja (who is polar speed)

Polar speed is from Reijo. He has the Levi Huskypark in Finland

Ninja is vom Wolfstor... not Polar Speed; though he does have Polar Speed further back in his ancestry, via his sire.

Ninjas grandparents on his fathers side are both polar speed (which isn't that far) and in polar speed there is seppla lines via Igloo Pak’s Candy To (very present in polar speed) - Alyeska’s Sugrut Of Chinook owned by Roland Lombard and from breeder Eva (Short) Seeley. I never said the Seppla lines where close, they are pretty far back. I was stating that they are in the tamaskans and in polar speed ... though technically a lot of huskies have seppla if you look far back enough :P ;) interesting huh?! :D

Within Husky world, this line is still called PS as it is completely traceable to PS.

Probably a lot ;)
Edit: I know that's not helpful but you could trace them by looking up some of the Seeley dogs in pawvillage. I was trying to find some sights with good info and it seems like lots of other breeds there are many people wanting to claim their site is the official site. It's neat looking things up and doing research. Just gotta be careful on what you (general use) take to face value.

She is a mix of bloodlines, but because the other side is PS the dog mainly considered PS.

There are a lot of working line kennels and breeders. You will need to do some research what bloodline within working SH you are looking for

I know of a kennel in western Canada http://www.seppalakennels.com/

A FB friend of mine, Jaye Foucher, breeds racing Sibes and some have made it over to Europe and Russia. I'm sure through her, and her friends list on FB, you could find some racing kennels in Europe.

One of her dogs, Wolf, I'm very interested in. He's a larger dog that she's produced and has great colouring. http://www.sibersong.com/dogs/wolf.php

.....that sounded kinda stalkerish. Not my intention at all.

If you are on Facebook, there is an amazing page for sharing of history and photos of mushers and their dogs. Seppala dogs are included in these photos--which is really neat!

That is a really neat page. Don't know french, just a word here or there, but I noticed that in a lot of the older pictures (black and white ones), just about all the dogs have brown eyes. Wonder how/where the blue got in there...

I have been told that Sepalas were bred more strictly for pulling and are more serious-minded than the average Siberian husky

From reading about a Seppala Kennel in Wyoming, they're seemingly more social yet easy-going than other Sibe lines.

Some of the links are broken on the deercreek page, but Monkey is definitely a looker!

I wonder if any of these dogs could be integrated into the Tamaskan lines in the future. I love their build and the way they are often described, but I hope that somewhere within that breed there is that special individual that we, with the owner's permission and hopefully without getting them into trouble, can add to the Tamaskan to continue. Not that there isn't any other alternative, but just saying.

Building a relationship with the kennel owner should be first and foremost in any effort to bring in a new foundation dog. Many purebred dog owners are bound by contract and simply cannot participate in cross breeding programs. But obviously just blurting out that "I would love to use your dog" would be a huge turn off.

It takes time and tact to be able to do this. And a lot of patience!!!
