Greetings from Maryland

Post by firleymj » Wed Apr 03, 2013 2:56 am

Hello. My name is Mark and I'm hoping (shortly) to be one of the humans blessed with a Tamaskan presence in my life.
Here's the basics: living in a townhouse community in Maryland, backing onto a small lake and acres of parkland.
Computer engineer, aged 55, pet friendly (2 tortoises and 1 bird), grew up around junkyard dogs (Dad actually ran a junkyard LOL!) Actually have had friends with a wolf-pack (they were trained naturalists, and I am not) but it was an education. So real wolf hybrids have been part of my life on and off for years.

I've been fortunate enough to have Ben and Tracy of Hawthorne help me and I wanted to say how impressed I am with their care for their Tamsaskans. (Fair cop, I've rarely been "smitten" with a dog as much as I have with their Freyja - an amazing combination of intelligence and sweet disposition - and I've been blown away by their support and the obvious quality of this community.)

Thank you all for so far, and I hope I'll be a worthy human companion. :D

Hi and welcome :D

There’s a battle between two wolves inside us all.
One is Evil. It’s anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies and ego.
The other is Good. It’s joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness and truth.

The wolf that wins? The one you feed!

~ Cherokee Proverb

Welcome Neighbor, Just pm'd back to you. Max is from our girl Freyja as well, so they're half-siblings!! We absolutely love the whole Hawthorne pack, Tracy, Ben, Chayce, and all the rest. They really do love what they're doing and are truly dedicated to the breed and all the dogs.

I can't wait to meet you new pup. Have you picked out a name yet? When do you pick him/her up? So exciting you're so close!! :D

Dottie,

We're still debating names at the point - though "Kona" - the Lakhotan word for "friend" is a favorite
After the official registry names, anything I come up with will be a letdown (smile)

Got you PM - yes, I think we will have much to talk about !

And I wholeheartedly concur about Hawthorne, the whole family has been amazing to deal with! And Freyja is just the biggest sweetie!

Mark

It took me weeks to decide on a name for my puppy Wylie. Best to have 3 or 4 picked out, then name your new pup when you get her (??her?).

Hawthorne's family are all super nice! I was planning to get a pup from their last litter and they went out of their way to help me out. When I backed out they even assured me that I would still be able to buy from them eventually and I ended up getting my male Wylie out of the Darwin (their male) X Leilah litter. They have some fantastic dogs!

I know he passed on his beautiful coloring for sure, and hopefully his size as well. Zephyr is such a lover!! Can't wait to see him again at the Show in June.

Lakhotan is not one of those languages where spelling is very regularized. You can get quite the debate over how things are spelt (and in addition you have cover differences in the Allied dialects: Nakhotan, Dakhotan, and Lakhotan). </end geeky trivia>
But like our beloved Tamaskans, it's a majestic and poetic language.

Officially, I don't know what I'm getting, and I only got to meet Zephyr once - but I was completely and thoroughly impressed! Handsome, yet with just enough shyness to just make you want to be his friend forever.

I hope to be a good pack member when I grow up!

Kate,

It's possible that I confused dogs - at some point in January was my first introduction to this wonderful bloodline.

If so I apologize, if not, some really pretty grey male who was sireing something was a real sweetie. :P (Laughs at self)

But by the grace of the Compassionate and the Merciful, he's going to be part of my "pack"
