German "Wolfdog" Breeder

Post by MoirAran » Mon Sep 27, 2010 9:26 pm

There is a breeder in Germany who has created their own "wolfdog breed". Recently this breeder tried to get his hands on a purebred Saarloos puppy through another person. This person never tells who the puppy would really go to. http://www.marxdorfer-wolfshunde.de/

Also on Rupp website and take a look at the picture on the left bottom.

I'm sad to see yet ANOTHER breeder who is crossbreeding and "doing their own thing" without any official registry... there's hundreds of them out there. It's chaos. At least (he says) he does health tests (hips, eyes, etc) but I haven't seen any results (yet) on his website. I will keep looking... but, with the number of breeding dogs, he sounds like a Puppy Farmer.

Indeed. I would hope that he has official certificates to prove such claims. ;)

That's one of his dogs (that he produced)... it just looks a lot like a Tamaskan.

Are you talking about the red one? I don't think it looks like a Tamaskan at all. Its ears are very tall and its head looks more NI shaped. The color is the only thing about it that looks Tamaskan-y to me. :|

Sad that he's doing a breed without even taking the genetics and registries in consideration... but his females Dawn and Phyra (the silver and the red one) are very pretty!

Hmm, but I recently saw an announcement on facebook of a Tamaskan outcross with a Marxdorfer Wolfshund. Was this approved by the TDR? I'm confused now I see this negative topic about this 'breed', maybe someone could clarify this for me. :D

The German Tamaskan club has not sought approval with the TDR for their planned combinations, using Marxdorfer Wolfdogs. So as of right now they are not TDR approved.

I was wondering about that because, by all accounts, the Marxdorfer isn't know to be health tested... I've heard a few people say the same thing.
Did the German Tamaskan club not agree to work with the TDR? I thought after Lynn left, y'all kissed and made up... Doing this with out approval is the same as everyone else going their own way and doing their own thing...

(Apologies if i got anything wrong...)

Wait, I haven't been keeping up with the German Tamaskan group lately, exactly who did the outcrossing with a Marxdorfer?

There are two "planned" Lucas:

Mountain wants to do Cheyenne (Blustag Sunsprite) X Marxdorfer

Weisengrund wants to do Leska (Blustag Blue Rosalie) X Marxdorfer.

The German club is working with the TDR. Normally all outcrosses have to be approved (by voting) by the TDR Committee and that has not happened (yet) with these two outcrosses.
I don't know much about this 'breed' but the two males that they used/plan to use are fully health tested (hips, elbows, DM, Dwarfism).

Cheyenne x Phayos has already taken place.
