Dog Show in Hoogeveen

Post by Rahne » Fri Apr 22, 2011 7:29 pm

Me and Konah went to a dog show last weekend. We were put in the shepherd class, together with 2 german shepherds, a belgian shepherd, a white swiss shepherd and a shetland sheepdog. Konah sadly didn't really want to cooperate, she didn't want to stand straight she would just sit on her butt and when she was finally standing she stood like a sack of potatoes

We got third place, judge liked her but said she needs more time, she's still a lanky teenager! Here's her rapport (hope it's translated right):
Dog (oops, mistake ) 21 months old, correct wedge shape in the head, good ear at the front aswell as the side, eye color enough, correct bite, good neck, good topline, good curve in the ribs, strong loin, correct angulation in the front and rear, good tail carriage in position and action, moves trough the ring at the right wolflike way, needs time, great character. Very Attractive.

These pictures were taken by others at the show:

Great photos, shame he only got 3rd, I am sure he was better looking than the other two, hopefully he will cooperate next time and do better.

3 out of 5 with a real dog show judge (not showing prejudice against the breed) is a real achievement, she must have realy liked her....well done

Great pics! And congrats!! :D
I wonder why they judged her in the shepherd class though, was there not a husky / spitz class?

Thanks :)

There weren't any arctic breeds/crosses so they couldn't make a class for them. Maybe they also thought she should be in the 'herding' class as the Saarloos and Tjech are also in the herding group?
I know the husky part is way bigger in the breed then the shepherd part so the Spitz and Primitive group makes more sense for the Tamaskan to be classified in.

Although they look somewhat similar, the Saarloos and Tjech are in the herding group (FCI Group 1) and that is one of the main differences between the Saarloos / Tjech and the Tamaskan, which would go into the spitz / nordic group (FCI Group 5) when the breed is officially recognized. :)
