Cesar Millan may have his faults, but one thing I think he is right about is introducing dogs by walking them together. I've never had any problems when following this advice.

Re: Pet quality and breed/show quality Tamaskans

I understand the reason for removing the rear dewclaws and agree that a dewclaw wound in later life sounds horrific. But I must admit, the idea of performing the procedure on a pup without a local anasthetic seems a bit grim. Then again, I also admit this thread is the only time I've ever heard of i...

We're at a similar stage of researching the breed and breeders. One thing we are going to do is attend the show in May and hopefully get to meet some breeders face to face. Can you come to that?

I watched one of those 'How It's Made' programmes where they showed how kibble is made. Basically just small biscuits with a spray of gravy on them. I really hope there are better ones than that out there.

No, he scarpered after a loud bang, ended up in someone's garden. They called the police to report a wolf in their garden. Oh, and my mistake, I meant to say lurcher, not deerhound, but almost identical, just a tad smaller.

I never meant to imply that 'intact' equals 'irresponsible', there are clearly highly responsible dog owners who also keep their dogs intact, but it is also the case that the irresponsible dog owners out there, the ones who shouldn't be trusted with a goldfish, let alone a dog, are also are the ones...

As a potential Tamaskan owner, I wanted to ask about neutering. If (when!) I don't agree with labels. Labelling of behaviour, promotes difference, differences promote fear of what we dont understand and fear promotes hostility. If a dog wants to try and mount another for whatever reason, I'm sure it knows why. Personally I don't question its motives :-) Paraphrasing Maste...

I think zoos are as variable as the people who run them. A good zoo, run properly, can fulfill a useful role in education and breeding, but this is the exception rather than the norm. Safari Parks go a bit better in terms of enclosure sizes, and wildlife preserves go further than that. National park...
