Re: Ignore a scared/nervous dog?

I'm sure there a quite a good deal of people on here who will know an awnser to this; Is it a good idea to ignore your dog when it's scared, anxious or nervous (of other people, dogs, of the envoirement, noises etc)? Like, obviously it's a good idea when strangers ignore your dog and pretend it's n...

Re: Takoda's Friends

Great photos! Your dogs have real character and seem very mellow :D I have had dogs with great character in fact I don't think I've ever had a" normal dog. They do tend to be laid back "hippies" . The greatest character was our Newfoundland, I should write a book about him, one of his more memorabl...

Re: Tear

I'd like to introduce a new member to my family! This is Tear a 12wk old kitten that I found in the bushes by my apartment complex this past Sunday. Mona Lisa had sniffed her out and she didn't run or anything, she kind of just looked at her. So I took her home and cleaned her up a bit and gave her...

Re: Takoda's Friends

So cute! I have a weakness for a bloodhound face :D His name is copper but he is known as Bobber or Bobbie thanks to my grandson . He always looks so serious and I think he believes hes rather upper crust. I have a lovely facebook photo of my grandson (4 years old) kneeling at copper's feet holding...

We think he is lovely but we are biased I suppose. More importantly to us he is so laid back and easy to live with. He joins our staffie, bloodhound and Alaskan Klee kai all who seem to like him too

Re: Takoda

Ohhhh, he looks like a little bat  yes, and the white inside the ears shows up well in the dark  interestingly as young puppy ears were small and rounded. His head is quite long and mature looking and growing very quickly , long body too think he may be quite big dog when full grown, may ...

Re: Takoda

nice boy, how is his character? :) Very intelligent learns quickly and retains it. 3 days after we had him using puppy mats reliably cries at night if needs loo then goes back to bed. walks to heel nicely and if stop to speak to someone he sits and waits patiently or lies down and goes to sleep . Re: Couch Destruction

Dont have a Tam at moment. As a rule I don't let big dogs on the sofa and if catch them on it I always ensure they get off it . This is purely from my training point of view, alphas have the best food and bed/ resting place and big dogs can become a problem particularly when juvenile if they see the...

Re: Dog aggression pup

Dont own a tamaskan but have owned dominant dogs and currently have a nervous growler (bloodhound) my advice would support get hold of a good dog trainer and attend a well organised training class early. Visit some and use judgement some are rubbish and if too many people ( money making focus) and p...

Re: The "other" wolf content issue

Cant speak for Tams as I am a new prospective owner so maybe I dont fully get this topic yet. However my thoughts are, Newfoundland history bears lessons for what happens when dogs left to revert back to a wild existence. People in newfoundland apparently due to a very hard life and poverty turned t...

My name is Julie, I am from Wales in the UK. I first heard of the Tamaskan around 5 years ago and was very interested in what I read. I have had a life long interest from childhood in dogs and wolves particularly behaviour and dynamics in the wolf pack and how that translated to living with and trai...
