Re: Puppy temperament testing and puppy selection
Yes, there is adult temperament testing. The Volhard Test is designed to screen for genetic predisposition. This is to be done at exactly 49 days old; any time after that and the pups start to learn behaviors so if we want to know how genetics are influencing our puppies this is the time to do the ...

Re: Puppy temperament testing and puppy selection
I think to see how well temperament testing (or accurate) would to be to re evaluate them 1 -2 years later. Obviously between 8 weeks and 1- 2 years there is a lot to take into consideration. How the owners have trained them, what they've been exposed to, where they are developmentally, ect. But I t...

Interesting, Wylie's tail is dead straight when he eats, at rest, and lounging. But when he's alert it curls up and almost touches his back and when he plays it forms kind of a sideways sickle...we call it his "Question mark tail". there is a method and reasoning to it, I am just not doing it justi...

But what breed would we want as an outcross that could help "straighten" the tail in future generations? I know our curly tails are way down on the list of things to correct, I'm just curious how would we go about correcting this in future generations. I think it's okay to talk about other "minor" ...

I really do like the idea of a fund being created for testing potential outcrosses, but how would we set that up? Wylie and Hyden I'd put as black grey, personally. They are so dark and they aren't the standard "wolf grey". wives tale about "roll over" (or is it?)
I am working with a dog trainer who has said that puppies under a certain age should not be working on the trick "roll over" she said that due to the lack of coordination that they don't tend to roll with their whole body so it can be "bad" for them. She didn't say it melodramatically as if their sp...
