Re: Burying poop with nose... This is new to me!
Sawyer does this using his nose more with his urine , but a few times he tries to do it with his poop too. He eliminates (most of the time) in a small rock/pebble box I set up in the yard. Makes it easy to clean up poop and hopefully the urine won't kill all the grass. So it's even easier for him to...

Re: United States has changed import regulations
I agree that these new regs will be an issue here in the US, but I was quite shocked that Sylvaen was able to ship six 9 week old pups to the US from Croatia with no issue at at all. No quarantine, no health check upon entering the US. In fact the paperwork accompanying my girl upon arriving at RDU ...

Re: Breeding combinations - health issues list
Great! :) This combination is now listed twice (the Crypto was already listed but now Sawyer also suffers from Epilepsy. Can you please edit your post above to clarify the registered name of Sawyer with epilepsy so there is no confusion as to which Sawyer has epilepsy. It is not Tarheel Wild at Hea...

Re: Curly Tails?
So an "acceptable" or "breed standard" excited tail might be equivalent to Wylie's "swimming tail" or Chrono's straight tail

Re: Curly Tails?
From the TDR Wesbite - Breed Standard: http://www.tamaskan-dog.org/breed-info/breed-standard.php Tail: At rest the tail is carried downward, but when the dog is excited or in motion, it is carried higher. The tail, should not be carried curled over the back. Coarse thick hair but not feathered. Can ...

Re: Curly Tails?
But what breed would we want as an outcross that could help "straighten" the tail in future generations?
I know our curly tails are way down on the list of things to correct, I'm just curious how would we go about correcting this in future generations.

Re: Curly Tails?
What outcrosses would be beneficial to help "breed out" the curly tails found in a lot of our excited Tams? I know that is not something we are looking to breed out just yet, especially since several of the recent outcross studs (Arrow and Ninja) are Husky which is definitely not helping to straight...

Re: Up and coming breeders discussion
So what is the first canine reproduction book we should buy? The Canine Reproduction course is not being offered at the moment, but the course's website recommends: -The Dog Breeder’s Guide to Successful Breeding and Health Management (ISBN:1-4160-3139-1). -Canine Reproduction by Phyllis Holst (ISBN...

Re: US Tamaskan Dog Club, Inc. (USTDC)
I have been struggling with becoming a member of the USTDC. As I haven't really seen what I get out of being in the club. Since the breed is so small, any club gatherings are likely NOT close enough for many to take a day trip. Have there even been any club gatherings in 2014...or planned in the rem...

Re: Up and coming breeders discussion
This will be great. As far as a local mentor, do you suggest local like in the same town? Same state? Tarheel is kind of local, but not convenient for frequent visits. Also, when looking for an experienced local breeder, what type of of breeds would be best? Sibes, GSD, arctic breed...these types of...

Re: What's the Tamaskan Dog population in the US?
I've been told the following:
"Right now we are close to 500 registered tams [worldwide]. USA - we are at about 150 Tamaskans"

Re: Odin & Friggas last litter
Ramsey(Romeo)'s new parent here - I am very happy to report that he has arrived in the US safely. Much gratitude to Pete for driving the pups all the way to Paris. Glad to hear that Samson is heading to Taxes; we are in Durham, NC. I would be very sad if Ramsey doesn't get to see his any of his sib...

Re: GPS Dog Tracker
Get the protective sleeves for them... if your dogs wrestle or mouth each others necks they easily detach and become chew toys... kind of expensive to replace. Been hoping for some extra collars to go up on ebay since the last one was chewed up but no luck on the extra collars just the original pac...

Re: GPS Dog Tracker
I have one for my tamaskan Zephyr... well had it never stayed attached to his collar and well and my other dog found it when it popped off and well used it as a chew toy. Great piece of technology but do get the protective sleeve for it. You had the Tagg brand pet tracker? I ordered 2, one for Sawy...

The TAGG GPS tracking device seems really great. I might give it a try.

GPS Dog Tracker
Does anyone use or have experience with a GPS dog tracking collar attachment in case of escape?
One of my co-workers recently had a lab pup escape so now I am thinking a GPS tracker for Sawyer's collar might be a good investment.
