A guide dog. Oh, boy, what have I gotten myself into?

Since my Belgian puppy was 3 months old, I knew I wanted a second dog, both to keep him company and to have twice the doggy love and activity partners. Sariel’s now 18 months and I’ve started looking at puppies and breeders and breeds to decide now on what to get when he’s closer to 2 1/2 or 3 since...

Re: Hot Dogs... Literally!

Pfft, I know the feeling. Sariel's got that long black/red/silver upper coat and that forever fluffy under coat. If I don't vacuum every other day, my carpet goes black (it /was/ beige XD) I'm just happy the rest of the house is hard floors since sweeping's fast, but I really could make a spare pupp...

Hot Dogs... Literally!

So it's looking more and more like we'll be opening our wellness center in mid/north Texas somewhere, probably in the Arlington/Dallas area. Whoohoo! My mother (whom I'm opening with) is totally sold on having a Tam as our second therapy dog, but made a good question about how they handle heat. Bein...

Re: Wolfdogs: Out of the Wild

Part of the problem, I think, is that most people don't know what pure wolves look like, just the ones they've seen on TV. In movies and TV, pure wolves are very seldom used for filming and advertising, and instead replaced with convincing doubles such as Northern Inuits, NAIDs, German Shepherd outc...

The Angel of Derp, Sariel

So Sariel is my Belgian Shepherd Dog of Groenendael coloring <3 He's been quite an adventure to raise alone but well worth everything. He's one of the smartest dogs I've ever handled, and was chosen from a litter of 9 specifically for me to raise and train up as my personal ESA and a future therapy ...

Re: New outcrosses?

I was rather worried when I'd gotten my Groen since I'd heard that they're very nervous dogs that are shy around strangers and have such high prey drives that they'd chase anything into the ground. But I guess that's the massive plus side about my breeder screening them all pre-adoption; she gave me...

Re: New outcrosses?

I'd have to see how she felt about it since Sariel doesn't have any show championship titles for himself, though his parents, grandparents, and several of his siblings routinely place BOB and other nice ranks. I get asked and encouraged a lot about breeding with him, but since I'm not active in the ...

Re: New outcrosses?

some outcrosses might be on the small side others might be bigger(Noque, Champ), hopefully there will be a nice balance between them If there will be an outcross with a groenen I will def want one and I'll be happy to cross it with a line which might have Noque behind it(would love to have his eyes...

Puppy temperament testing and puppy selection

So one of my besties and I are both avid dog lovers and went through breeders for our respective furbabies. True to many breeders, for both of us there was some research involved and mild screening about our respective home lives and agreements to the care of the pups. The one thing that really sepa...

Re: Sastipe from Florida!

I was actually rather surprised there haven't been Belgie crosses already :p Usually on our walks most people are convinced my monster is a wolf or hybrid, including a gent who said he trained wild animals. The pups would be supercute for sure and you'd likely get some longer-haired ones from it. He...

Re: Sastipe from Florida!

Hello to you both! I've still got a lot more research to go, but I think I'm pretty much sold on a Tamaskan being my second dog :3 And it's fabulous to know someone already has a Tamaskan and a Belgian living together. I'd love your input on how their personalities mesh and handling them both.

Sastipe from Florida!

Sastipe everyone! It's very nice to meet all of you and have a chance to do as much research on this beautiful breed as possible. Y'all may laugh at how far in advance I'm doing this; my current dog, a Belgian Shepherd named Sariel, is only a year and a half old and I'm already planning on a friend ...
