Re: Hand-shy pup
Nixi, also from the same litter was hand-shy from the day we got her. She did form a good bond with me and my husband but she never looked for affection. I have never met such an unfriendly pup. Unfortunately her fear of people turned to aggression by the age of twelve weeks. This happened three tim...

Re: Bite inhibition
Thanks for the input. I have used the restraining methods with other dogs successfully. With my Tamaskan I literally have to run across the room and rugby tackle her. Even then she does not get the message, my kids are covered in scratches and bite marks. She has attacked two children in the last tw...

Re: Bite inhibition
Thanks for the advice. That's exactly the problem I have been having, the "No" command is great when she is calm, but when she gets excited I have to grab her and restrain her. I have also given her time out in the crate. I guess I have just been worried about creating a nervous dog when I have to g...

@Chantelle. You should come and meet her, we are very close to you.
When are you thinking of getting one? Any time soon? Would be great to have more in Alberta

Thanks Rahne,
She does well with the "No" command when there are treats available and she is focused on me. Hopefully she will calm down soon.

My Nixi also has puppy vaginitis, I was also told it is quite common.
We are not treating it, just keeping an eye on her and it should clear up when she is spayed.

Re: Bite inhibition
Sorry if I didn't explain myself very well. I am concerned about my puppy biting my sons face. She is not being aggressive, just normal puppy behavior. But she is 20 pounds, fast, and has teeth sharp enough to draw blood. This is my first Tamaskan, so I was hoping others who have raised a Tamaskan w...

Bite inhibition
My pup Nixi will be 12 weeks old this weekend, and she still has a very hard and persistent bite. I know it is just puppy overexuberance, and have tried the yelping, restraining and ignoring methods, but she just doesn't seem to care. I can handle this, and I am sure she will grow out of it. My worr...

@Gabriele58 I hope your finger gets better soon! This definitely seems to be a strong willed bunch of pups, it's great to be able to watch so many of them grow up
@Nino, I am glad you said that, I think they look quite similar too, hopefully it will continue

Nixi (Blustag Golden Rainbow)
It has taken us over 3 weeks to get here, but we finally made it! When Nixi arrived she was a scared and skinny wee thing, (although she sounded more like a pack of wild dogs than one little pup, when they brought her in for collection!) for the first couple of days she just wanted to sleep and eat....

Hi there, what is Bears D.O.B? I have his sister but dont know exactly how old she is yet. Can't offer too much advice yet, because obviously mine is the same age. Re: Heart murmur
I did contact my breeder straight away. I don't think I suggested that Lynn was at fault, it was the vet who examined the puppy in the UK that I was questioning. I think the only person embarrassed yesterday was me. I was discussing the breed with my vet and telling him there were very few health is...

Re: Heart murmur
I don't understand how it was missed by the vet who checked her in the UK and gave her the all clear to fly. She cannot be bred from, and any anesthetic she may need could be very dangerous for her. I spent months researching this breed, health was a big priority. The reason I didn't get another Ger...

Hi everyone, As many of you know I got my new pup on Tuesday (Blustag Rainbow from the Heidi/Bodie litter) I have just returned from the vet. She has a significant heart murmur. Second day with my new pup, I am not inexperienced and have done everything by the book. I have just experienced what Terri described. I only put her in for 5 minutes to change my son. What a mess!! Hi Katlin, good to hear from you. That's a good question about gender. All the dogs I've had have been girls, so that seems the obvious choice, but my husband wants a male.
