Re: Odin and Frigga

Oh. My. Gosh. I should not have looked! Absolutely PRECIOUS. Man, I wish I was ready for a pup. Alas, not for another year.

Re: upcoming Freyja x Dylan litter

The wait is killing me! How does everyone stand it  ?! LOL. I've been following the Tamaskan breed since '08 and I'm still not ready for a pup. Good thing I'm finally in the dog field, career-wise. Haha. I work with dogs every day and there are ups and downs, but the ups normally far outweigh ...

Re: Ferrets, dogs, cats, and more!

Thanks, guys! They really are all a hoot and keep me on my toes. A lot of people balk when I see how many animals we have, but really, I don't think we'd have it any other way. They really aren't that hard to upkeep and they definitely provide a lot of companionship. :)

Re: Ferrets, dogs, cats, and more!

I also have two ferrets. I started off with two, Casey and Dameon, that I've had since they were kits. Casey passed away last in 2010, so I adopted two more ferrets in December of last year, Rinnie and Ruben. Ruben just recently passed away due to a spinal tumor, so I'm down to just Rinnie and Dameo...

Re: Ferrets, dogs, cats, and more!

We also have a myriad of outdoor cats. Our neighbors have barn cats that they didn't bother to alter, and we've had quite a few come down to our place when they realized we offered attention, food without competition, and warm shelter. We started off with two, but then Penelope (the mother/grandmoth...

Ferrets, dogs, cats, and more!

Thought I'd share some pictures of my personal little zoo! There'll be lots of photos, so I apologize in advance. ^^ First, my girl Chloe. She's a 4.5 year old Australian Shepherd/Collie mix. She's a bit of a brat and has some mental stability issues that have been a work in progress since day one, ...

Re: A diferent kind of feeding question.

I know many people that use their dog's daily food ration as training treats. That way, they aren't eating any extra calories and the dog has to work for its food. A similar idea was to put the food in puzzle toys and make the dog work for it. (That doesn't help with training, but it does keep the d...

Re: Tamaskans - right for me?

Hi Blackrose, I can share our experience with Tamaskan as well. I agree with all of the above. LOL We brush our dogs once a week and that seems plenty except during season changes. Our Tams (we have 2) are quite affectionate and enjoy being with us either on the couch, or along hiking in the mounta...

Re: Tamaskans - right for me?

Thanks for all of the information, guys! They really do sound like an awesome breed that would work out well for what I want. I still need to discuss with my boyfriend what he has a preference for, but if he likes the sound of the Tamaskan than I think that is the direction I'll head. And if that is...

Re: how much is too much?

Granted, I've never had a dog that weighed over 80 pounds (most were in the 45-65 range), but we never really monitored their exercise. Blackie and Rose (Lab and Lab mix) growing up self exercised. They had free run of 100+ acres and they most certainly put that to good use. Swimming, hunting, playi...

Re: Dog behsaviour books

I have two books that I love...they aren't so much about body language per say, but more about what the dog is thinking/feeling/doing when it interacts with people, and how the signals you are sending may not be what you think they are. "The Other End of the Leash" (focuses on human/dog interactions...

Tamaskans - right for me?

As I stated in my intro thread, I'm currently on the hunt for my next dog. Although I'm not ready for another dog right now, by next fall I hope to have my hands full with puppy breath, accidents, total cuteness, and destroyed household items. :D I'm currently researching breeders in the various bre...

Hello from the Midwest!

Hello, everyone! My name is Andrea. I'm currently in my last year at Purdue University (Indiana, USA) majoring in Animal Science. I am the proud mom to a 4.5 year old female Collie/Australian Shepherd mix, two senior ferrets, and a dwarf hamster. I currently still live at home (will be getting my ow...
