Re: How's the weather down there?
Hey, send some snow down here too when y'all get some.
I'm sure it'll stay somewhat frozen with a generous amount of dry ice. It's OK if it's slightly slushy!!

Re: How's the weather down there?
For those who are getting rain, ship some down to Texas? XD I think if you look at a recent satellite image of Texas, it's all yellow and brown. lol.
I'd be happy to send the drought away and distribute it accordingly...problem is, how do you transport a drought?

Re: How's the weather down there?
Way down south in my part of Texas, we got reaaally nice temps of low to mid-70F with overcast all day! :D The ground was slightly muddy from the "massive" downpour of rain from last night and early morning - double yay! We really needed the rain, if even to just dampen the super dry ground a bit. 7...

Gaby, have you looked into a canine massage and accupressure therapist? I have a friend who is a canine massage therapist who also does accupressure work on dogs and horses. She recently made a blog post about a dog who suffered from a broken toe that would not heal for over 5 months so their owners...

Re: Training not to escape!
Running out of the front door is one of the top ways dogs get killed by going straight out into the road. I never open the door with a dog there as it is just TOO risky. Dogs can be trained to sit yes....but...accidents happen. Best way is to not allow it to happen in the first place. Child safety ...

Re: Crate size?
Stupid question: Does the height of the crate matter when you're crate training a puppy? I've been told that it's not encouraged since they'll have room to jump up and down in their crate... But I don't see the point in buying multiple crates for a large breed puppy if I can get away with getting a ...

Re: Training not to escape!
The way I trained Mona Lisa was using my backyard :) (That way she doesn't run into traffic) when I get ready to take her on walks or let her in the backyard I tell her to "Sit" and "Stay" before I open the back door. Once she's in the sittting postion, I reward her with a small treat, then slowly ...

Re: 10 months and first non-playful bite. What happened??
Someone please correct this statement if it is wrong, but I've learned that you should not correct a dog who growls. Growling is a warning. If you don't allow the dog to give a warning then he / she will just bite without warning. I would assume the same for facial gestures including baring teeth. ...

Re: Crate training
Great post. :) I think it also really helps the dog if you put a word like "kennel" or "crate" as often as you catch them entering the crate. As the dog gets used to the crate and sleeps in there overnight with the door closed without a fuss, you can start training them in kennel manners - sit and w...

Hey everyone, I was wondering if I could get some pointer tips? :P I'm currently teaching Mona Lisa to stop jumping up because when she does she's trying to lick/nip my face..It's like she's snapping but trying to lick at the same time and most of the time I end up with small bits on my face ...

Hey all, It has been QUITE a while since I last visited, so I thought a re-introduction was a good idea. lol. I'm Arie from Texas, USA...currently don't own a Tam, but hopefully, that'll change in the next couple years. ;) I currently own a rescued yellow lab named Abby. In the past half a year, I'v...

Re: Kibble
When we adopted Abby (lab mix), I had her on Nature's Variety Instinct, which was grain-free for about 4 months. After a scare where she broke out in what looked like hives all over her head overnight, I considered switching her to Orijen Adult. Before that though, I took her to the vet and the doc ...

I remember asking a question about how adaptable a Tamaskan would be to the Texas heat back in the old forum and was directed to make a visit to Charlyn & Bob - also located in Texas. Most recent update : Abby got her staples taken out today since I haven't seen a change in the healing process since the 10th... The sutures that were tied on the outside are beginning to slough off - they sutured up the incisions from the inside. <3 I am also happy to announce she has rid herself ...

We have a separate carbon monoxide detector that's well....not in use. That is very good news Arie. It must be a great relief. I am so happy for you. Just need to lose the lampshade and she'll be good as new :) Unfortunately, the (somewhat) unsightly new decor will have to remain until the 16th. I caught her trying to get at her stitches this morning, but lampshade st...

That's good news! I'm really glad to hear it. As for removing more than necessary, don't worry too much... better safe than sorry! If the tumors had been malignant and not enough was removed then it would be a real problem. So just count your blessings and give Abby lots of hugs... she will be fine...

Random Rant: For some very odd reason, all the smoke detectors in the house let out a very shrill BEEEP at 4am last night; the usual green light went red when it ended and then changed back to green. Update (Day 1): Abby came home today and was pretty excited to see us at the vet's office. She stayed overnight for observation and was as calm as could be (and drugged up!). The vet tech told me over the phone that she wasn't stressed out at all and was just watching the staff from her spot on the...

I gave lots of hugs to Abby today and there's more to come. :) There's no behavior change (albiet slightly less active when out in the yard) and the masses don't seem to cause any pain - she allows me to touch them. Sorry to hear about Abby, hope all goes well for her next week. You are quite right ...

Abby (yellow lab) tumors... [update: They're Benign! :D]
Abby (our yellow lab) is schedule for a surgery to remove two masses on her abdomen next Wednesday. :( The vet thinks they're mast cell tumors and they're going to remove at least one of her mammary glands on which the larger mass is situated next to a nipple. I'm hoping these are benign, but they'r...
