Hey guys, I have a 4 month old Tamaskan, I got him when he was 3 months and his eyes were pretty dark brown. Now they are light brown and when looked at with the sun shining you can seem some yellow in there.

I heard tamaskans can have their eyes get lighter and lighter all the way to a year old.

Has anyone experienced this?

I haven't heard of them getting lighter, I have heard of them getting darker though, depending on the breeding line they come from.

Jasper had quite dark eyes but they did lighten a bit as he got older (around the center of each eye)... they are still quite dark (not yellow - but more of a dark amber color). Vixen has much darker (mahogany colored) eyes. I guess it varies depending on each individual dog and their bloodlines. You should post some photos of your pup! Also, do you know his ancestry?

Thought I might as well update Sølves eye pictures..

It's hard to get an exact picture of the color as it changes a little with light etc. and the Camera is almost never the right color

buut yeah.. They are golden, yellowish in the middle, light brown around the yellow and dark farest out..

For the correct eye colour for Tamaskan please refer to our standard.
Eye colour ranges from palest yellow through to dark brown. Blue eyes are not acceptable.

I was Looking through tam pics on Facebook and came across a couple of Easter miracle as a newborn. It looks like he was blue eyes. Are they born with light eyes that darken as they get older?

Yes, they change and should be yellow to dark brown by the time they go to their new homes... Human babies eyes tend to be lighter when they are born and they change too.

Yes I know, but I was just saying that I personally like the light pale-yellow or amber eyes better than the brown eyes. Most wolves have that yelow to amber colour and I'll NEVER accept blue eyes in any Tamaskans. Not to get off topic but I have actually seen pure wolves with blue-greenish eyes before though that are never as blue as those found in huskies. Nonetheless, those eyes are not allowed in Tamaskans.

Okay--Yellowstone Litter is past the 6 week old mark now and eyes are starting to change. A lot of eyes look grey at the moment--a mix between blue and yellow-ish.
Does anyone know when we should expect the eye color to move completely away from blue?
I know their eyes lighten as juveniles. We got to watch Freyja's eyes lighten from brown to gold over about a year period.
Should the puppy blue change by a certain age? 7 weeks? Hopefully by 8 weeks (eek!)? Is there a way to tell if any of them will have lighter eyes as young pups?
Thanks so much. We are so enthralled with puppy development. This is a full time job but we are LOVING every minute!

the later they are blue-ish/grey the lighter they seem to be when they get older..

As you can see her eyes changed around that time from the bluish/gray color

they are golden (as you can see in this topic) today

Thanks Nino. So if we still see bluish grey at 8 weeks, those pups will probably have lighter eyes?

I'd think so yes..

the earlier they turn dark the more likely they will be dark brown..
