yellow/amber eyes

Post by AngieH » Sun Aug 14, 2011 8:08 pm

Reading the Black/Gray Tamaskan thread got me to wondering about another Tamaskan feature.

Which lines produced the pale eyes. The ambers and the yellows?

Which "families" do they tend to pop up in?

a lot of the american dogs have the yellow eyes..

Sølve has a light brown/yellow-ish color, and I do hope that if I decide on breeding her that I can find a male with yellow eyes, since I would like to have this color myself (I'm not too keen on the brown eyes, not because I don't like them but because if they beg I cant resist them.. for real, Kovo does that!)

The majority of the yellow eye comes from lines containing Sylka at Blustag, an old Northern Inuit line. The dogs in America get this yellow eye from J&J's Woulf who is a daughter of Sylka.

No Skye,Bodie,JJ,Jodie,Timba are all yellow eyes and come from a completely different line. Sylka was very dominant in the yellow colour which is where the USA have got their colour from which was a very good start for them. Denver is a son of Sylka and also has lovely yellow eyes but dosnt produce sadly. Tumanra has dark brown eyes as has Dallas her daughter even though her father and grandfather both have yellow eyes.

Yes. Some pups are born with blue eyes, as they get older they turn pale yellow and they darken as they age, sometimes ending up brown. Pups who are born with brown eyes will stay that way though.

My Kenai had the palest yellow eyes when he was young just like a wolf and even up to a teenager. Now at maturity his eyes are dark golden amber...nice but not quite the same

All pups have blue eyes when they are young and then the colour changes. By the time they leave at 8 weeks I can usually tell if they are going to change to yellow or go brown. There are no 'husky' blue eyes in the litter no.

please correct me if I am
wrong: puppies with greenish eyes have good chances to get light eyes, right?

Do suspect any of the Nana litter will have yellow eyes? I love the yellow eyes and would love to have pup with them :)

There is one pup in the litter that has lighter eyes than the others, but I think they will most likely go dark in the end.

Won't breeders strive to breed lighter eyes for the future then, or?

It may be that we will have to add in more dogs to produce yellow eyes as we have very few lines that carry that trait.

Perfect, I (for one) will be looking forward to seeing that trait as a breed standard :D

It will never become a breed standard. The yellow eyes are a bonus. Eye colour ranges from yellow through amber to brown and will remain like that. It would be impossible to have every Tamaskan with Yellow eyes and like I mentioned before..... I have had the palest of yellow eyes turn dark amber as they mature.

If i'm correct wolves can have yellow, gold, amber to brown eyes. I also red that some may even have 'greenish' eyes..

You are correct Rahne and I have seen wolves with almost opaque eyes almost like opals. The best pale green ones I saw were over in Portugal and they were absolutely stunning. I must try to find photos and post here. I have sooooooo many photos in a box now that I got with my now 'antique 35ml  camera. Now our cameras are all digital I never look in the box as everything is on the computer but I really must dig them out again as there are so many interesting pictures in there.

Was thinking of Skye for this year as this will be linebreeding and would undoubtedly produce some cracking pups.... IF.... she gets pregnant
