What is the correct pronunciation of Tamaskan? I'm afraid I might be saying it wrong when I tell friends about the breed. Is there a youtube video somewhere that might have somebody saying it?

Nice video
Re: Pronunciation
Thanks for posting that great video! I had been saying it right, thankfully! Now I don't have to retrain myself to say if differently
Also, thanks for the welcome!

Re: Pronunciation
Great post Paige and that's a really lovely video. My husband has been pronouncing Tamaskan like a type of anti depressant (Ta ma za kan) for a long time,
he takes great delight in winding me up
But he makes a lovely cup of tea

Re: Pronunciation
I'm not going to lie, I'm from the middle-of-nowhere America and I'm horribly guilty of having an accent to match, so I was pretty worried I was pronouncing it like a redneck.

Re: Pronunciation
I heard the american as Tom-ass-can. I'd honestly say Canada tends to pronounce the a's with greater emphasis.Nino wrote:Well I am danish and pronounce it just like that.. and have been even before I heard it done there..Convel wrote:Well that vodcast is very british (sorry deb) pronunciation.

Re: Pronunciation
I think that the proper pronunciation might be táh-MAHS-kán with all short "a" sounds as in "mat" because I've heard a Metis (part Inuit and French) call his husky "Tamaska" with all short a sounds so that's how I pronounce it. But you're free to pronounce it in anyway you like, I've heard tam-ahs-kan, ta-mass-kan, táh-MAHS-kán, tama-scan, etc. as long as it sounds like the way it's spelled.Paige wrote:What is the correct pronunciation of Tamaskan? How long do you think before Tamaskan ownership is prescribed as a cure for depression?silvermagpie wrote:Great post Paige and that's a really lovely video. My husband has been pronouncing Tamaskan like a type of anti depressant (Ta ma za kan) for a long time,he takes great delight in winding me up

Yep! a hot cup of tea and a warm pup at your feet can cure *anything*

Re: Pronunciation
Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I pronounce it basically the same way as "Alaskan".
Except with a Tam instead of an Al.
