yep yep I will be having one in the future

Post by Dozer » Tue Feb 14, 2012 9:46 am

No not a Tamaskan but an Aatu.(dad is also registered with the TDR and mom is from tamaskans that are registered with the TDR so in a way the little one will be a tamaskan but the breeder doesn't want the use that name so call her dogs just Aatu) Not for even a year but in the future :)
If all goes the way I planned this will be mom

and then this will be dad

The other is Good. It’s joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness and truth.

Thanks. And yes I know I have to be patient because mom is to young still for some healttest and dad is waiting for the results back for his hips and elbows.
I hope all goes to plan and all healt test will be fine because if 1 isn't this match will not go.
And I particular find it very fine that I have the time( because right now is just way to soon ;) )

I also know that some background in both lines have some risk that can't be DNA tested( luckely this breeder is very open about that:D)
but as far the lines of mom and dad are known they are not both potential carriers of those :D

Beautiful dogs.
But Humas, may I ask you which breeders are the two from? I'm afraid I've never heard of these two before despite trying to keep track of as many Tamaskans as possible.

They are from Weylyn. If all goes well( all healttest are all right, they have enough people on the waiting list and they want the bitch to be at least 2 years old) Avak Balach vom Muensterland wil be the dad and Conchur Sierra will be the mom.

Avak is from Summer's litter, brother to my Timba and I guess Sierra is from Reggie in US. Avak is a registered TDR Tamaskan.
Who are Sierra's parents? Reggie does have or did have pure Tamaskan. This would make your pups Tamaskan if you have any.
Why does she just want to call them Aatu??

But assuming that Avak is not a monorchid sufferer/carrier (clear), even if Sierra is a sufferer or carrier from Mikko, the resulting puppies from Sierra x Avak would be carriers...? Genetics baffle me sometimes.

If only there was such thing as gene-repairing machines to detect and fix that monorchism part or other unwanted flaws but that probably won't exist until maybe between 59 - 100 years from now. :ugeek:
But then again, such a technology would just get under everyone's skin and rule-out any reasons for health testing and the next thing I know it we're living in a cyberpunk dystopia. Sorry, too much Marvel 2099 stuff.

Yes. she is going out from that Sierra would be a carrier because of mikko her dad. Because it is as far as she knows not in the lines of Avak and because it is not as an horrible disease like Dm etc she dares to take this risk and all potential new pupowners know this. Also that Avak is carrier of DM and that there is epilepsy in his line and that he can be a potential carrier of PRA because one out of the line of his dad was tested: not free for now. That means it doesn't mean that that dog has PRA but it can be, so as long the new test doesn't say clear they go out from that he is a potential carrier. His dad and he are still tested clear from all. But this also means that tested clear doesn't mean they can not be carriers.
The reason she just wants to call them Aatu is because she doesn't want to lift on the tamaskan name and she wants to stand lose from it all because she still thinks that also the tamaskans are great dogs.

PRA does not usually show until the dog hits 3 years old, which is why I always think asking for that test at 12 months old is daft. They could be clear at 12 months and then fail at 3 years. This is why with other KC registered breeds they ask for the test every 3 years (some, such as Lhasa Apsos now ask for the test every 12 months or before every mating)

yes by this breed they ask for it every year. and the last test may not be longer as I thought it was like 4 to 6 months before a mating but sorry I am not totally sure about this.

I know the dog which is PRA: notfree for now. It is 1 of the dogs of the litter we had. It means the dog needs to be tested after 6 months again for PRA. Unfortunately this dog is not only not free for now for PRA, but is a sufferer of Cataract  We asked all owners who has a littermate to test too, other dogs tested are all clear. But not all owners want to test (even tho we pay them the money back after testing). It is a shame, because it is very important to test every year or every 2 years

O didn't know it was one of your dogs. Only thing was told to me was that it was a grandchild of the father of Avak.
It does probably mean that both parents have to be carriers. But from who have they it etc. It is hard to find that out because all these dogs are tested clear on all. So I do think it is good if you have situations like this that you set them as potential carriers and for finding a good mate you don't want to use a potential carrier on a potential carrier.

Let's just hope that your pups don't inherit both copies then IF that is the case. Too bad mother nature made it difficult to tell for females

Yes it would be sad if the pups turned out to be carriers or sufferers of both PRA and DM, you will have to be very careful when choosing mates.

I am not worries about DM because Sierra is free. She doesn't know enough about that line to give any sertanty about the epelepsi and eyes. But as I hear her talk she is very clear in why she made this combination and that everyone that breeds has to make hard disisions and choosing because breeding is always a camble because all dogs have something that not always shows up just after a few genarations.
It is a pity that some horrible diseases still do not have test and that is why it is so importante to know as many as you can about a line.

Humas already knows but I am still looking at the backgrounds of both dogs.
And as it seems now this combination would not go in my eyes if I am right.
All already know about that I have set Avak as an potential carrier for epilepsy but I am afraid that I also have to set Sierra as one because she has Cougar in her line 4 generations back so if anyone can tell me more about lines from Blustag Care Bear I would be very thankful...........

That is really too bad, I am sure you can find an alternative?
I know they are considered Aatu's but have you considered using a "normal" Tamaskan, this might make the litter a possibility and create an extra generation away from Cougar?

I dont know if you mean lines forward or back. If you mean forward, I have a son and a daughter of Blustag Care Bear (Miya). They are 6 and 5 and have shown no sign of epilepsy. I have only health tested Ayasca as Mischa is spayed, but he is DM clear and has passing hips.

As far as I know, Liz, who owns Miya, hasnt had reports of epilepsy in any of her other puppies either :)

Thanks Fiona :)
As far as I look now to all lines of Aatu or "normal" tamaskan by the info I have there would be allot that I personally see as potential.
So for now I am just going to look if the generation can be found further back as 4. If not I know there has been more combinations that have that risk even closer in their generation and have no sufferers so............. I have time to figure out if I want to take that change.....

I hope you figure something out (I'm sure you will) I for one wouldn't mind cross breeding between the Aatu and the "normal" Tamaskan.. Unfortunately I don't have a stud, only a bitch for now :)
I do however totally understand why you are concerned so would I be (acturally more accurately, so AM I)

I know I will Nino :D . I have time too look at everything so.......
I am not really worried that I not find a match that I think is the best but I am very open about how I see it and what my thoughts are about breeding.
Some that showed interest in my dogs for pups like that very much but there are also people that doesn't like that, my saying in that is always: the people that do like it are the ones I want for my pups because they are the ones that want to know all the good AND the bad sides of it all. Mostly those people ask the hardest questions and that is what I like ;)

Well they are not there only for being puppy machines right?
I feel like that with Sølve, even though I will let her go through all the tests, to be sure that she is healthy, if she does not live up to the standard, I will just let her sterilize and enjoy my wonderful dog that I love so very much, the biggest reason for me even considering breeding her is that I would really like a puppy from her of my own <3

Indeed Nino. The first reason they are with me is because I love them. And of course it would be great if I can ever have a litter but than all must be and feel right for her, the pups etc.. And there must be at least 6/8 people on the waiting list. If not.... I am just going to love her and of course the others without that litter :D
