Help name our Tamaskan!

Post by Strattorr » Wed Jul 03, 2013 10:48 pm

Hi everyone!

New to this forum (about 15 minutes!) so perhaps this is already a thread (in which case perhaps someone could point me in the right direction) but my family is getting our 8 week old male Tamaskan this Monday July 8th. So excited! We have a number of names we like, and won't really decide until we have our guy and get a feel for his personality but I was just wondering if anyone had some great ideas for a name for one of these amazing looking dogs! We have Ryker, Knox, and Kahwai near the top of our own list. We have explored some words in the finnish language, we are from Nova Scotia, Canada and love the ocean, outdoors, and adventure. Definitely want a strong name. One syllable names are appealing but we will take any suggestions of course! So if you named yours already but had a couple good ones, please share!

Thank you so much!

Hi Strattor,

Congratulations with your puppy and welcome to the forum! I think I like Ryker the most, but it is just my opinion. ;) Where does your new puppy come from? Who are his parents? And off course we would like to see some pictures!

Myself would always pick a name that the dog would carry proudly, like a name that means really something nice. And in a lot of cases I have seen that they become what you call them, because they love to do what you expect of them. I don't know what the names mean, but I like the last one you mentioned. So I am really curious what does it mean,(sorry for me english please...)

Hey everyone thanks for the input!

We got a male pup, the one the family named Harry

Our guy is from Ontario, Tamrakar Tamaskan. I am a little confused as to how you correctly say or write the dogs lineage.... Ive seen people write "at Blustag" or something...?

Pretty new to this world of dogs from breeders and being able to trace their lineage! My last couple dogs have just been rescues! In one case we didn't even know how old he was for sure.

Been spending a lot of time on this forum, it is rich with information!

The "at something" part is when a dog from one breeder goes to another breeder. Sob say you had chosen the breeding name potato tamaskan. Your pups name would be tamraka harry at potato.
He's from Ontario, how bout Rio?

Ryker is good since he'd have nicknames like Rye, etc.
I'm a firm believer that the best names you can say over the phone (like to a vet) and they understand right away. :)

Looking forward to pictures!

I really like Knox!
When the wolves cry
to the Blue Corn Moon,
When they howl at
the passing of mountains,
When their gold eyes
pierce your mind and soul,
When you become one
with the wolf within,
then I will love you.

Thanks everyone for your help!

We named him Knox and he is great!

I am at work now and cant remember off hand what his temperament and structural test said. I think one said that he was classified as a "pet", not a show dog or anything, and temperament I don't remember reading a final "score" but I know he got right in the middle of most things (like the open umbrella test, he was in the middle of the spectrum of "scared and ran - went up to it and was curious"
