Grass Seeds - Warning

Post by claireyclaire » Sun Jun 10, 2012 5:50 pm

Just a quick reminder to be very careful to check your dog over when running in long grass, firstly always best to check if any ticks have been picked up, but also please be aware how nasty grass seeds can be.

Yesterday evening I had to take Elska to the vets to get a barbed grass seed removed from her eye, poor baby was in a lot of pain and her eye is still swollen and causing her discomfort today.

This happened in a field we exercise in regularly and we always give them a check over for grass seeds when the grass is long, but we never saw this seed and would hate for anyone else to go through this. :(

Sad to hear the girl is sufferring from that :(

I think it's better to observe that grass patch whether it's on a lawn or in a park before taking the dog there so that no nasty seeds gets picked up by the dog. Just my opinion ;)

I would never have let my dogs go anywhere if there was a danger they could hurt themselves, this was a freak accident, but thought I would share it just to make others aware.
