My dogs smell delicious

Post by chelle784 » Fri Sep 19, 2014 7:58 pm

Does anyone give their dogs organic coconut oil? We have only just started as I found a jar in my cupboard so thought I would try it. I heard there are health benefits and also that some people see an improvement in their coat after using it. As I've only just started the only thing I've noticed is that it makes them smell delish but picky mcpickerson eater (Pepper) seems to love it.

I've not tried any yet for our pack, but they still smell good. They do not have that "doggy smell". To me they smell like a clean dusty parrot, which I love, others who have met them were surprised that they did not have a scent to them.

Do you think that's a Tamaskan trait? We've had people say the same about ours (they don't have a 'doggy smell') and also when we have tamaskan meet ups other owners have said that people tell them the same and 'luckily tamaskans aren't a smelly breed.' When I say they smell delicious I mean that they smell of food (coconut) not first they were stinky and now they aren't hehe. I don't like coconut I think it tastes yucky but I think it smells nice!

I have a jar of organic coconut oil in my pantry, but I have to transition Abby through another protein before starting it. I also plan to use it in place of olive oil in the dog cookies I make. Ill have to fix my mixer and whip up a batch to ship it off to a picky treat eater to test it one day...any volunteers? LOL.

I use it occasionally on Wylie when his coat is dull. But really he's not a huge fan of it.

Kumho always smells because if there's stagnant water around, he will find it and jump in it. >> Don't know if coconut oil is going to help with that. xD

Eggs are also supposed to help with coat shine. Mine all love eggs.

I haven't tried coconut oil, though.

Mine love eggs too but they make Pepper fart... so she doesn't get them often haha (and then the farts smell really eggy)

There are a few types of deadly dog farts, my friend. Of those, I know of the silent ones and the eggy ones. Hahahaha.

I hear fish oil is also very good, but depending on the dog, it could result in dry flaky skin instead due to a citamin deficiency?? I hear that's one of the reasons why some folks opt to give coconut oil instead...plus, it's cheaper. Lol.

I think there's an interaction between fish oil and vitamin E, so you have to watch how much you give.
