Re: search and rescue
I'm planning on training Search & Rescue with Jasper... just haven't had the time yet, but there's a class starting in early fall that I'll probably attend.
I'm also curious to hear of other's experiences - I think most Tamaskan Dogs would be ideally suited to it, the only downside being the stage where they have to bark to get your attention... I wonder if a "woooo woooo" will suffice... LOL

Re: search and rescue
I did start the training for search and rescue with a Tamaskan, but I didn't get far before I gave up (because of a house move, isn't it always) because of lack of time. Tamaskan are very good but the barking can be tricky, but it can be done.

.
i hope we became a certified rescue dog. but it´s a long hard way, but it brings a lot of fun and the know to do good thing the help people when they are in an emergency....

Re: search and rescue
I plan to do search and rescue with my dogs after I attend school. I can't wait to work with them on it. Akira loves tying to find things and barking. Rin loves to bring things to me. I hope they enjoy the training.

This is great!
I am hoping to use my next dog as a S&R dog, I'm not sure how good Sølve would do it, although her nose is great and she is smart as hell, and probably would love to do work, I don't think she would like the looking for people part
But I'm already looking into my next dog, I might just contact you to hear of your training and experience with Yuma mexxhundekumpel

Ayden should be great at it, just need to ensure anyone who needs rescued has had the foresight to put some chicken in their pocket and then we'll be fineNino wrote:This is great!

Lovely to see her here again. Thankyou for sharing

Re: search and rescue
I started with Jade ( Blustag Jascal & Susi) search&rescue trainings when she was a puppy. She was very shy in the beginning, but got better after months hard work. She doesnt bark at all, but she has learnt to tell me, when she finds a hidden person. She jumps towards me and runs then to a hidden person! She has a good nose and willing to work and look for people. Unfortunately she is still too reserved to be used the true search&rescue working. In future I am hoping to get a new tamaskanRkjyang wrote:has anyone tried search and rescue training with their tamaskans? what were your experiences?

Re: search and rescue
I've been wondering if anyone knows how to find your local certified search and rescue classes? I have googled and the one that seems closest doesn't seem legit.
2 15 yr old girls from my town have gone missing and i can't help but think how useful fully trained dogs could possibly be... Guess i kinda wish i could do more... Not 100% sure it would not help them as they got into a car with someone and people think (or desperately hope) they are staying with them but for future emergencies it could help and i'd at least like to try...

Try contacting your local training club and ask them if they know of any and where?

Yeah, guess i'll have to. Just feels weird to ask a trainer i have not used for the details of another trainer

The training company I work for offers Nose Games classes. Dylan and I have taken classes to learn to play game using his nose (like find the box with an object in it). He has done okay with it. Some days he enjoys the games more than others. These are fun ways to spend time buring off energy when it is raining or too icy to play outside!!

Re: search and rescue
well, search and rescue is one of my reasons that i have interest in Tamaskan breed, of course and wolfish appearance and northern origin..
i have a 16 month old siberian husky male and i´m doing search and rescue training with him.. he barks very good, i tought him to bark on voice command, and he can howl on command too.. he is very obedient husky and can be off leash anywhere, and he´s doing the search and rescue excellent..
we are training wilderness area search and urban search and rescue, only problem that we have is very strong pray drive, he already cought one rabbit on training and will chase animals if they got in his way while searching for people..
im wondering how is that pray drive doing with tamaskans?

Re: search and rescue
It depends on the individual dog... all the way from non-existent, to relatively high. In general, Tamaskan Dogs have a lower prey drive than huskies though. Also, those that do like to chase can usually be recalled before they disappear into the distance (or catch the animal).Balto wrote:im wondering how is that pray drive doing with tamaskans?

They postponed the course due to not enough entries / interest... only myself and a couple other people were interested and they needed more people to run the course. Hopefully it'll be available again sometime in the near future.Balto wrote:i saw in recent post that you planed to do search and rescue training, did you try?

Re: search and rescue
i guess you plan to go to KOSSP, few months ago they were giving free rescue course.. conditions were that your dog is socialized and have recall, usually it costs around 800kn
