where in northern CA live by the way nine?

Just wondering because you're the first person I've seen on here that has a pup in CA :D

How's that going for ya with the minimal heat and stuff as summer begins to pick up?

Why can't you walk him outside of the house??
I think it is very important in this age to socialize him with EVERYTHING. Later it will be much more difficult to train him not to be stressed or affraid in different places and situations...

Does he meet strangers (people and dogs)?

I cant walk him outside because he is not fully vaccinated yet. My vet told me that my area has alot of parvo and other nasty diseases, so he recommended that I do not walk him outside until his 4th set of shots. I don't want to risk him catching a nasty disease.

Yes, I have friends and family over all the time and I take him to family/friends house also. He has met many people young and old as well as other dogs. Loki is a pretty calm dog even in new environments and I feel that he is getting enough socialization at the moment.

Stockton just south of Sacramento. He's doing fine with the heat right now, but the weather hasn't begun to peak yet. If he can't handle the heat once the 100 degree weather hits, I will just have to crank up the A/C.

Sorry about the lack of updates, I've been busy with work and havent had a chance to post. But, better late than never, huh?

Loki continues to amaze me on how fast he picks up tricks. It seems to only take a few tries and he has it down. His latest trick is catching his treat which I thought would take longer, but he got it after a few tries.

I took him on a road trip this past weekend and he seems to do fine until about the 30 minute mark. He will start drooling like crazy, and he actually threw up while driving on the freeway. I have him in the back row seat. Does anyone have any suggestions on alleviating this?

Anyways, here are some pics:

He is a lovely looking pup :D .

Have you tried DAP in the car? Other than that just keep taking him on lots of trips in the car and he will get over it. Saga used to be terrible, we could not even go 5 mins in the car without her throwing up, but I took her every day in the car to walk her, even though it was in walking distance and now she is fine, recently we did 2 hours in the car and she did not drool :D

He's a very handsome boy. These photos made me laugh. I thought my Loki was the destruction prince, but I see he has competition  . My poor Bella's stuffed toys are quickly becoming history and boxes end up the same way as the one in the photo. It seems they just LOVE that rippinggggg sound
My Loki had similar issues in the vehicle but he's getting much better. He still drools, but not nearly as much as he did and got sick only the one time. I think he realizes now that getting in the truck means going somewhere fun. I believe there is a whole thread on this issue and there is a lot of advice in there.
Good luck with the car sickness...hope Loki gets over it soon. :)

Here are a few recent pics of my boy Loki. He's doing great and is a joy to have around. I'm thinking of training him to run beside me while I'm riding my bicylce. Does anyone have any handy tips?

Handsome boy! He really looks a lot like his older brother (Jasper) :D
I would definitely advise not to let him run by your bike until he is at least 12 months old (several Jackal X Susi pups have very bad hips) so it is better to be safe than sorry. Once he is old enough, then you can start training him to run next to the bike... you have 2 options: he could either be off-leash (trained with treats to stay next to you) or you can put a harness on him and use a bikejor converter so that he can pull while you are riding the bike.

Both options have pros and cons...

If he is off-leash he has to be well trained and must always listen to your voice commands: when to stop, when to stay close, when to switch to a different side, etc. This option gives him a bit more freedom and independence.

If he is in harness, you have a bit more control over his movement (he can't go running off away from you if he suddenly gets distracted) and he will instinctively enjoy pulling, but you have to be extra careful to watch that he doesn't suddenly cross in front of your path, etc.

Here are my dogs off-leash (next to the bike):

Thanks for the handy tips! I probably won't start with Loki off leash with a bicycle since I don't trust him off leash yet. He gets easily excited by little things and am worried he might run off and do his own thing. I do try to work on him off-leash in enclosed areas, but don't full trust him yet.

I was thinking of getting something like this:

rather than having him on leash while on a bike. I've heard some horror stories of dogs crossing the bike path and causing accidents. Hopefully the Petego Leash will work as advertised.

Thanks again!

Haha, Debby your old picture of the first two dogs is so cute. Gotdamn they looked younger. But I don't know if you can do that cycling with six dogs currently unlike back when you only had Jasper and Vixen.

Hey,

I am wondering how it works out cycling with 6 dogs. I am inclined to think that the slow introduction to those that are well trained would give those a little leery the guidance of the ones with the experience. =)

Hi there I have Loki's brother (Blustag Lightning Strike) we call him Leo. I just wondered what Loki looked like now and how he's getting on? Leo has been having a few health issues. Here's a pic if you're interested

Welcome to the forum! :)
LovelyLeo wrote:Leo has been having a few health issues.
What kind of health issues? From the photos it looks like he has a problem with his eyes?
For the sake of the health of the breed overall, it's important that we keep track of all known (serious) health issues.
