Hey everybody,

to my surprise, Pete called me yesterday, if it's ok for me, if he comes earlier... earlier meant yesterday 11pm.
So Apollo is already with me and I had a short night, because he didn't understand, what happened to him. :?
Today we made a short walk in the morning and now he is sleeping beside me. :)

I will post some pics soon ... but one thing worries me: he is very aggressive towards my dog Calypso, both are very stressed, that's understandable, but he barks and snap at her all the time, she lies in her bed he runs to her barks and growls, and if she growls at him, he gets really angry and attacks her. On our walk Calypso runs around, Laios chased her and when he gets her he attacks her again, and that really wasn't a play. I've never seen such a behavior in a puppy before, all were submissive towards older dogs...so maybe you know this behavior, I know it's also stress, of course, but I really hope it will get better! Calypso is afraid now to come to me when Laios is beside me, so I'm really sorry for her.

I now start to reinforce him, whenever he is nice to her, hope it will work. :?

What a lovely boy
I'm glad you finally can close your puppy in your arms !!!
I hope the relationship between your two dogs will improving. :!:

A puppy under 12 weeks, is also treated as a puppy by an adult dog.
From 12 wk. he must behave, otherwise he gets a correction.
That is why I insisted by Pete to bring the puppy to us before 12 weeks
Otherwise, my pack has not accepted Rayza,
and I had (what a pity that would be) to abandon the sale.....

@wolfwoman: so do you think i got him too late? It would be helpful if calypso would correct him,but she doesn't every time,so i must correct him,but i think he got it more or less..i'm really not sure yet,if it is aggression, frustration or only rough play!? We'll see! But all in all he is such a calm and adorable puppy and of course still a little bit sad,as he misses his family!

I think it is not too late,
but this it is a lot more difficult.
It also depends on the characters of both dogs.
But with the right guidance, it can be just fine.

That would not work with my Czechs.
(But those are not the easiest on their own yard,
and see another dog as an intruder)

Well calypso is a very sensible and submissive dog and now she is really scared of him, which is crazy as he is a puppy!? She doesn't even want to move when he is in the same room,so i must have an eye on them all the time otherwise he would attack her immediately...buh..that will be lots of nerves and training!

Aah maybe you give the dogs some time to get comfortable with each other.
He may still have the scent of the whole Saxon dog pack , so he smells like he is with a lot of dogs.
This scent will fade away and will be more acceptable for your dog. Could also maybe be a bit scary.
For my older dog Joe(5years) and Nana(Saxon Hera) from the same nest as your lovely boy it took like a few weeks to get along.
Joe was hiding the first days Nana arrived in his hole he dug in the garden, or laying far away in the house.
To be left alone and not to get involved in a puppy attack, which he really don't like.
A puppy has a licence until a month of four to get away with everything and they may kind a bully other dogs.
every day the space he wanted between him and Nana became slightly smaller and now they play together (4 weeks later)
O Laios is a lovely puppy , little cutie

Nana was reacting also a bit spicy when she arrived (or call it aggressive )also her attitude in the way she wanted to play towards other dogs, I really thought she is a tough and spicy girl.
But a few day later as she found out that Joe is Big and sturdy but also polite and kind.
I found out that she was not so tough but maybe a little puppy trying to survive in her new world on her own.
Nana got more relaxed and is now not playing so kind of aggressive anymore.
Even the people in the puppy class noticed she changed her attitude a lot.
Sorry for my english please

Re: Laios (Saxon Apollo)

Post by JoaquimJoe » Sat May 25, 2013 11:05 am

Joe was drewling the first week every time Nana came too close for him.
If she want to enter his space he growled so low I could feel it in my stomach.
Maybe Laois need to adapt his attitude from living in a large pack with adult dogs and lots of brothes and sisters bullying around on eatch other, to the new way of life, where no dogs are jumping around on him and no dogs are stealing his food or attention. So he can become more layd back.
Nana has a high prey drive ,she bites (with a lots of curves on her nose really wolf like) in every thing that moves even the flowers in the garden by moving in the wind are eaten off.
It looks really aggressive, but now a month later. we trained her to let loose on a commando. And she easily does.

In 2011(dec) My mother died and I took care of her 2 Dashound 6years and 7 months old, Joe acted the same then. and he already knew these dogs.
Drewling and hiding and laying far away from those two for two weeks or so. They were already crate trained, so that was easy to keep them apart as long as needed. But they became friends but respected each other space, like they were not sleeping together or so.

When the Dashound moved out to live whith my sister, Joe became lonely he really missed them. The opposite of how he acted in the first week.

Sorry for the much words, and I really don't know how it works out with Czech dog pack, but I think your dogs will get along in a week or two and maybe in a few days.
Calypso acts just normal. Taking her own space, giving the pup his space.

And in my work I walk a lot of dogs, and the older dogs (older than 2-3 years) are not natural in love with pups, really the opposite happens, they want them to go out of their space. Beeing in love with seeing a baby is more human kind of way, not adult doggy way.

Enjoy your little puppie cause they grow fast, he is soo cute!!!!

Joe,thanks a lot for your helpful answer!!! As i am relaxing more and more,it gets better!it's obviously really that he is jealous,so i train now that it is my choice to pet calypso and he has to accept this,if not he will get no attention!today we went for a walk with a friend of mine and her dog,it shows that he was afraid of her dog and whenever this dog runs to him he snaps after her,so i think he wanted to defend himself!when calypso and the other dog were playing,he wanted to play with them, but doesn't really know how,so he snapped again...so i really think now he has to get more secure and he has to get to know lots of other dogs and their specific behavior!
He also got to know my rabbits and chicken, but he doesn't seem to be interested at all! :D
I'm curious how he will behave with my cats,i haven't see them since laios is here! :D

Yeah it really got better, as I am relaxed now. He was submissive towards Calypso the first time, yippie! :D Now she has to learn to trust him, that he isn't bad anymore. :)
Half an hour ago he met one of my cats the first time, the cat of course was afraid and ran away, Laios wasn't impressed at all but a little bit afraid. :D

And he is a real gourmet, he doesn't want his kibble at all, only raw meat (beef, chicken ...), good that I bought 20 kg last week as Calypso also only gets BARF. Bad that I also bought 15 kg kibble ... :o

Yippy very nice to hear all of this!!!
I felt so sad for you and your little boy and Calypso.
But now every day things will go better! Yeah :D
Nana has every day like ten minutes or so a puppy terror time, and then I give her "time out" by putting her in her crate, but for the rest of the time is she is (if she not sleeping )sooo sweet and kind a layd back.

Haha I have also like 20kg PREMIUM puppy kibble left to feed to the chickens or give away, Nana spits it out she also only eat raw meet. So I happily bought it for her( 50kg).

Yes I'm so happy too ... now Laios and Calypso would love nothing better than playing the whole day like mad.

Im really happy to hear that your dogs started to like eachother!:)
I got my little boy Tag (Saxon Hermes) in Hamburg on saturday and we came home to Norway tuesday afternoon, he really seems to like it here and i just love him! :)
But he really doesnt want to eat anything else but the raw meat i bought for him in the pet shop!!! He just smells on the food that Pete gave me and then walks away?? I gave him an apple once that he ate... Does your dog only eat raw meat or does he like ANYTHING else? :P

Nana (Saxon Hera) also only eats raw meat, loves mix of meat and fish, she did't like Pete's kibble also. :D
and Nan also loves eating from my apple.
Funny how they all look so very different but react kind a same.
Big hug for Tag and Laois also from Nana :)
