Whisper - Liebenthaler Wildhorse

Post by Vroni » Sat Jul 16, 2011 1:14 pm

This is my Liebenthaler Wildhorse from Germany names Whisper.

He is now 4,5 years old and he is learning to ride at the moment (don't no how to write). It is a little bit difficult because this breed is such natural that they are very intelligent. A real wildhorse. :-D

The herd where he come from is too great and every foal is one horse too much... The persons which are responsible for the horses do not make very much advertisment and so the hole year many horses had to go to the butcher...

With my homepage http://www.liebenthaler-wildpferde.de I want to find more interesting people and I am very happy that so much people buy some with my help.

Here are some pictures of Whisper:
Picture 1 with Pad from Barefoot and Wareika (bridle)
Picture 2 from yesterday
Picture 3 with a little bit winter-coat
Picture 4 training with Jack as a ride-companion-dog
Picture 5 first time riding (bridle)

He's lovely!! And so lucky that he was able to be saved - I hope the others will also be as lucky.
Such nice horses... and it looks like he's learning fast! :)

He looks lovely, I have not ridden for many years, miss it also. If I am ever in a position to get a horse I will have to remember those and try and save one.

Whisper has got a shoulderhigh of 1,35 m.

Yes he is very cool with Jack. Jack wants to play and Whisper don't understand him and gets angry sometimes, but he do nothing only show with his ears that he is angry. Jack is allowed to do everything. :-)

I love them so much and it is so great that they accept each other!! Although they are a little bit jealous...

So around 13 hands... I love his color too :)

The horses I use to show were 17-18 hands high.

What fun! When I lived in Germany (when I was a kid), I rode a horse like this for lessons. He was quite bumpy, as I recall, but quite intelligent.

Re: Whisper - Liebenthaler Wildhorse

Post by Vroni » Wed Jul 20, 2011 7:05 pm

The Liebenthaler Wildhorses are not the same as the Dülmener Wildhorses which are in Germany too. I think you mean the second one because the Liebenthaler were not sell for a long time. They were a project to grow back the Forest Tarpan (do not know if you know this breed, it was the European Wildhorses). Because the herd get too large they had to began to sell some of them. But they did not make advertisment for them so they had to give regulary a lot of them to the butcher...

The Dülmener Wildhorses are looking the same but they are a very different character. There the mares and stallions are seperated. Only for 2 month two or three stallions go back to the mare herd. Every year on the last Saturday of May the stallion yearlings are catching by men in a big arena. It is a very big event and only 20 km from Kirsten, Karsten and us away.

If you are in Germany at this time you had to visit it! But you have to order the tickets at October the year before. There are only 2 or 3 days to buy them because so much people want to see it.

I have to say that it is a great show but the organizer are making so much money... So they want to make the look of the breed better and athletic. For this they use different other breeds like sport-ponies and so on. The Dülmener are very different of coloring and character.

A big different between both Wildhorses are the bad experience which the Dülmener made at the catch... I know a lot of them and most of them have got problems with men etc.

I hope you understand my explanation. If not please ask!

Here are some pictures of the catch:
1. The mare-herd came in
2. The catcher seperated parts of the big herd to find the stallion yearlings
3. They catch the yearling
4. They put it onto the ground to take the halter over his head
5. They bring them to the burning point (not this year) and than in a little stable with the other yearlings

What a beautiful foal! Gorgeous pictures! The way they catch and sell them seems a bit...mean...but I suppose it all ends well for them. If I had the chance I would buy one <3 :)

I like ponies much more then the big horses. :-D

Same in Denmark ;)
I'm 10-11 cm taller than you so I can ride both horses and ponies (though I need to loose weight :oops: )
I like both, but I have always just really loved horses.. of cause it doesn't matter much to me ;)

We did not work a lot the last month... He is a little to fat I think... But he is a lean horse of his breed. There are horses of the breed which are a lott wider than him.

I don't mean fat or muscles just the way he is build. Koniks are pretty lean build horses, the Liedenthalers I have seen are a lot wider and you can definitely see the norwegian in them which is also a wide build breed.

what are you planning to do with him?

There are quite a lot of sporty Norwegians here in the country :)

We have Kategory 1, 2 and 3 (I, II and III )

kat I max 148 cm
kat II max 140 cm
Kat II max 130 cm

if they are wearing shoes you put on an extra cm for the measurement.

everything above 148 is a horse here.. I think they say up until around 157-160 it's a small horse though :)

I mostly have ridden Horses of varies sizes myself.. I love warm-blooded horses

there are sporty norwegians here too but they are still a lit wider then Koniks. Koniks are warm-blooded

we have A, B, C, D and E

A = max 117 cm
B = 117 cm till 126,9 cm
C = 127 cm till 136,9 cm
D = 137 cm till 148,0 cm
E = 148,1 cm till 156,9 cm

koniks are mostly used for grazing in nature preserves, so you won't see many koniks in great bodycondition
most people don't even know you can ride them but they are just polish working pony's nothing wild about them :lol:

well it's a good height, you can keep riding ponies ;)
I am about 157-158 cm :P
I also enjoy riding the larger ponies / small horses (Arabians in particular)... :D

I am 152cm :) Haven't riden a pony in ages though, I am a huge fan of the big horses like clydesdale.
