Two new members :)

Post by Luccistar » Thu Feb 21, 2013 11:45 pm

We are proud to welcome two lady foxes in our family!

Will publish pictures this weekend or the next one, depending on time

One of the vixens is a Platinum-colored one, named Tipi, and the other is a Marble-colored one named Elaine (pronounced A-lay-n).

Will keep this topic updated :)

Woops, seems I have forgotten to update this.

Thanks for reminding me by commenting, Sylvaen!

Finally, we have backed out with Elaine the marble and thus only have adopted Tipi the platinum fox. She's a beauty, she's pretty shy though, but she is not aggressive at all, and pretty gentle. We will still have a marble (or more) like Elaine (probably from Elaine's litter actually!) this spring 2013, as well as some other kits or adults of other colors. :)

Here's a picture of Tipi!

Very pretty!! :D
Question: are they "messy" or smelly pets? or relatively clean...
Just wondering how much poop they produce (and the smell) as well as urine.
It's the only thing putting me off at the moment, from perhaps having a pair one day in the future.
Also, can they be housed with cats? or would it be dangerous?

Wouldnt it give problems to import to Europe Debbie? Dont know how foxes are considered at customs.

heh this is Croatia. Anything is possible... (and Croatia isn't in the EU - yet)
But I'd probably try to import a pair directly from Russia, rather than from America. :)

They aren't messy, they're actually very clean and smart, and can be litter trained (they use the litterboxes about 85-90% of the time).
Their fur, and the fox itself doesn't smell bad IMO. I've come across people saying that they STINK, and some others that can't find any particular smell about them, and that think foxes smell good. It all depends on how you tolerate the particular smell their pre-caudal Violet gland produces. ;) some people are ''immune'' to it.
They poop about the same as cats every day, and their feces are generally solid and compact (unless they eat something bad..) and they smell... like cat poop? They don't have any particular bad smell (other than the poop smell of course). I'm thinking you have cats, since you mention them, so I will give you a hint to what their urine smells like: have you ever smelled a male cat's marking (when they mark their territory)? It's about the same smell. If you have one of those special litter boxes that eliminate odors, it shouldn't be noticed that much though ;)
They can be housed with cats, if they're brought in the home as kits (NEVER place a fully grown fox with a cat if the fox has never seen cats when it was young). Also, NEVER place an adult fox, regardless if it has seen cats before or not, with a kitten.

But otherwise, foxes get along good with cats if they're used to them since they're kits! They must just be supervised when they're together to make sure the fox won't play too rough, but as far as we're concerned, no incident ever happened between our foxes and cats.

PS: They get along EXTREMELY well with dogs :)

I wish there was an update of how the fox is doing. So interesting that a member owns a fox

From what I read on another forum, that image was stolen from another user. I'm not sure if it's true or not...but I'd be interested in seeing more images from Luccistar too.
