on saturday we went hiking at Paklenica national park http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paklenica
we hike about 2 hours up and 2 hours down, Balto was pulling me all the way.. we were at mountain house at 480m

im wondering is it better to use regular rope when your dog is pulling you or to use bungee rope like at canicross?

Oooh nice! We went to Velebit with the dogs in 2011... absolutely gorgeous scenery. Hope we can go again sometime... :D

As for pulling, a normal rope is fine, but I do recommend that you also use a short bungee bumper or shock-line to help absorb some of the impact - one end attaches to the dog's rope, and then the other end attaches to your belt or your bike.

Maybe Tihomir has some ManMat equipment with a similar concept. :)

nice photos Debby :)
i like regular rope beacause i can pull the dog from something if needed.. with bungee rope that is little harder.. which is better for dogs, or it is same for them?
hopefully ill get my x-back harness, bungee rope and belt very soon :)

Velebit is beautiful.. hope to get back up there very soon

this is Musapstan Forest Park, large forest at the entrance of Zadar, we often go there to have a walk or jog, its less than 10min by car from our house

Oo I want to go hiking and climbing to Paklenica! Hope next spring I have time.

This forest park is also interesting. Looks good for SAR training. Searching in those quadrants. How big is one quadrant?

and i want to see Tana, action or no action :D
we can do training here or in Paklenica.. i can call my friend with labrador from Mountain rescue service and by the time you come to Paklenica we will have one more team mate with Border collie, maybe even two new borders

100x200m is very nice :) , in Croatian mountain rescue service for 1. stage licence you have to among other things, search area of 10ha (100.000m2), with dog barking at helper continuously 100 times.. but there is no obedience test, and Balto and I like that very much :D

Uf, until then, we have much to train with Tana ;) Do they all have licence, right? How far are you two with training? Do you know anyone training bringsel alert, maybe?

It is probably similar in Slovenian mountain rescue service. All I know is that there is no obedience, yep :) But in Slovenia you have to be an alpinist and mountain rescuer, if you want to work with your dog there...

Labrador is still young, he is going on his first exam this autumn.. and Borders didnt even come yet, so when you come they will still be young puppys :)
We dont have any plans with our training, we just train :D
It is problem for us because in Zadar there are no independent SAR training groups like KOSSP in Zagreb.. there is only Mountain rescue and only this labrador with no licence yet, and those borders that didnt come yet will be in ownership of mountain rescue members..
Problem for me and Balto is that if I want to make him mountain rescue sar dog i must join mountain rescue service..
We are training off the record with Zadar unit, but we can not participate Search and avalanche commission trainings which includes all the dogs in training of Croatian Mountain rescue service, and that is too bad because there are lot of very good lectures, there are held even by Slovenian SAR trainers..

p.s. i dont know anyone training with bringsel method

Ah that's they are. You can set up a new club, if there is more of enthusiasts. Here is one small club, which was founded by a few individuals, and works good. Just an idea, what matters is to train :) Do you have Rescue Dog Association of Croatia, which is separated from Mountain rescue service, like we do? I belive KOSSP belong there?

Nope, there are no rescue association.. but there are few independent groups that work each for themselves, KOSSP in Zagreb, HUOPP i think Rijeka or Samobor and UPPH which are firefighters from Opatija..
There are enthusiast in Zadar, but there are no qualified person to lead that.. there are no SAR dog trainer professionals here

For me and Balto its only important that we have someone to train with, and that number will increase..
But the problem is that i want to make him a licenced sar dog, and now we are far away from Zagreb, and KOSSP has some own rules.. there are many tests you have to pass before even making to sar tests.. and if we join rescue service, it must pass 2 years before becoming a full member

and new gear is here.. the size is good.. and the impression is also very good.. i try these harness when Balto was young, his female husky friend has same but in M size, now Balto has grown and we ordered XL size.. the price for harness, belt and bungee rope was about 35 euro
the manufacturer is Romanian brand Musher.. they have interesting slogan :D
