Blackbird Amy and Chaffinch Finchen

Since yesterday I have a little baby blackbird and I really hope she will grown up healthy. :)
Jack did great and was not very interested in her (with wild rabbits it is getting more and more difficult for him...). See yourself! ;)

I had to take her with me everywhere, also to work because I had to feed her all the time. She could be really loud when she is hungry...

Today evening I found a second bird... My neighbour tell me that it lies their from midday... :?
It looked more dead than alive and of course I take it with me, too!
Since now the first bird from yesterday is doing really great and the second one is getting better and better. :D
Hope to see them both grown up one day!!

good job taking such good care of them! :) I have never raised birds before, but I think Debby has done something similar with crows - you guys are so neat!

I love the photos and how Jack is with the birds :) keep us posted

Sadly the little one didn't make it...
She died in my hands a few minutes ago...

But the bigger one is doing great! :)

Oh no... sorry to hear that :(
I know the feeling. It's happened to me many times in the past - some of them just aren't strong enough and there's nothing you can do even though you try your best. Hopefully Amy will make it though, she seems to be doing well so far...

Today we were out in the garden and Amy really liked it. She is getting really active and want to leave her nest sometimes. And she is really really affectionate about me. :)
And Jack accepted her completely and don't show any prey drive about her! :D
Love them so much!!! ♥

I'm sure you're doing great work for the little bird, but were you sure there were no parents to take care of it when you took it?
Because most of the time, they are around and will watch and feed their young, even if they are on the ground.

When I found her there were 5 nests where she could came from. All nests were emty... I sat her back in one of them because she did not have enough feathers to live out of the nest. She was really weakened and lied onto the very hot ashpalt (I did not know how long)...
I watched the nest for 2 hours... No mother and no father came to feed her and she cried from hunger... Then she fell out of the nest again... That was the moment I took her with me.

Like I wrote there were a second bird which didn't make it because she was smaller and more weakened than the first one. This birdie lied there from midday to the evening (my neighbour told me)... It was the same situation.

You really do a great job, it's heartwarming to see how Amy develops!
I had a nest on my balcony once..all 5 birdies fell out of the nest, but the parents cared for them on the ground, it was good that the balcony was roofed, so they were safe from the weather and of course I didn't go out until they were able to fly..but I watched them from inside. :)

She grows too fast... :?
But I am really very happy she is doing great and she will be with me for around 4-6 weeks until she is ready to be free. :D
Jack still loves her too. ♥

Little Amy is still a little afraid to be outside. If I doesn't take her out of the box she will be inside all the time. She is feeling save in her box. Hope this will change one day...

I think the time is coming that I had to seperate them because Amy is too dangerous for poor Jack.

Today we got a new little birdy... :?
It is a Chaffinch I founded at work. I asked a few specialists to be sure she could survive because she froze and screamed, although her parents were there (I watched them a few hours). Sadly they told me that she is looking very bad and that it is not normal she screamed all the time. She will die when I won't take her with me... I organized antibiotics and vitamins and until now she is doing very well! :) Hope she will made it!
And of course Jack and Finchen (that's her name) likes each other!! ♥

Oh I never updated this topic...
Maybe a few of you want to know what happened to the birds?
Sadly baby Finchen (the Chaffinch) died after a few days with us... I really had to cry because one day before Blackbird Amy began to feed her which is a real natural wonder!!
Amy got bigger and bigger and a lot more active. She was no longer happy to be locked in the house. So I let her out and she really liked to be free. :D
