Just a quick question...
On the last forum there was a button for videos so that you could watch the embedded video from within the forum, without having to go to YouTube, etc.
Is it possible to do that on this forum at all?

Re: Videos
Just to let you know, I added the BBCode to allow embedded YouTube videos!
Now, all you need to do is copy the "ID part" from the YouTube URL link and paste it like this:
For instance:
You copy the last part after the "v=" so in this case: 2w7JCJXNxEY
Like so:
Ta da!
Now, all you need to do is copy the "ID part" from the YouTube URL link and paste it like this:
For instance:
Code: Select all
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w7JCJXNxEY
Like so:
Code: Select all
[YouTube]2w7JCJXNxEY[/YouTube]

Re: Videos
hehe no worries, it was very easy to just delete the YouTube URL part and just leave the video ID... no trouble at all.

Re: Videos

Re: Videos
I also recommend YouTube. It is simple and easy to use, and you can share your videos with everyone.

Re: Videos
Hey guys,
I was just wondering, since many social networking sites and few other forums have the option of uploading videos directly to the site from their computers, I thought wouldn't it be nice if we could just upload videos we want to share directly onto this forum instead of uploading it on youtube or other video sharing sites and posting links? Just my suggestion. I think the advantage of it would be that it would then limit to only forum members here can see for those who don't wish to share videos of their dogs to the general public like on youtube. If that's impossible then forget this.

Re: Videos
You can upload a video on youtube and ask that this video won't be public. So the only way to access the video is the direct link.

Re: Videos
Unfortunately, it would use up far too much bandwidth and would cost a fortune in hosting fees. By allowing OTHER sites (youtube / facebook) to host media content (videos / photos) and then linking them here, we actually save a lot of bandwidth. Every time a photo is uploaded here directly to the forum (as an attachment in a post) it takes up space / memory so it is actually much more preferable to use other sites for hosting instead of this forum.Tiantai wrote:I thought wouldn't it be nice if we could just upload videos we want to share directly onto this forum instead of uploading it on youtube or other video sharing sites and posting links?
As Emilie already said, the youtube video can be set to private and only visible to those who have the access link.Tiantai wrote:I think the advantage of it would be that it would then limit to only forum members here can see for those who don't wish to share videos of their dogs to the general public like on youtube. There’s a battle between two wolves inside us all.
One is Evil. It’s anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies and ego.
The other is Good. It’s joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness and truth.
The wolf that wins? The one you feed!

Re: Videos
It's OK, at the current rate of usage we should have enough available bandwidth to last for another 2 years and then we'll see about switching to a new server or upgrading the hosting account.

Re: Videos
Yes, certainly good to know. I'll use photo bucket or flicker or something else now for stills. It'll be easier for me--I don't like uploading one at a time. I like to be able to upload tons

I also prefer photobucket, especially if you have a large batch of high resolution photos to upload. Also, Photobucket automatically generates the image code, which makes life easier. However, lately I just upload to Facebook and then copy / hotlink a few images directly (and then provide a link to the rest of the public album) so that's another good option for those who have/use Facebook.

Re: Videos
Another slightly more professional place you can upload videos is vimeo.com Same idea as Youtube, though I found it to be a bit more user friendly + easier to make videos private. (can even P/W protect them.). The tradeoff is you have to wait for it to upload and process, depending on volume it will take longer. Most of mine have been in the 25-45min mark.
Re: Videos
Also I don't think that Vimeo is supported by the forum so the links would only be links in here instead of the video showing..

Re: Videos
This is correct, Vimeo is not supported for the quick embed, but you can link out to it if you wish.
