"Cared for her since she was eight days old"...
Most likely not a Tamaskan Dog, possibly a mix sold by RPK as no breeder would ever sell a dog that young. Hope she finds a new home, terrible situation of losing a home to a fire

Two households in the area will be going to see her today.
I've volunteered to be a resource and have pointed them here and to real sources of info.
Since most pups wouldn't survive separation at that age, I'm likely to think that "days" was meant to be "weeks" which would make a lot more sense. If her real age is 6, then she's from a time during the breeding wars when the real problem breeders were only coming to light.
Fingers crossed, full Tamaskan or even part, they are tiospaye (Lakhota: "All family")

Have the new homes contact Tarheel so they can do a DNA test, that will tell if she is a Tamaskan or not for sure.
Re: Indika (Tamaskan Dog) - Home Program - Hamilton, OH
I think any tamaskan fan would be happy to have her regardless of if she is or isn't a tam. I mean she's gorgeous! I would take her in a heartbeat if I could(she's only about an hour from me).

Re: Indika (Tamaskan Dog) - Home Program - Hamilton, OH
THANK YOU. It was on my list of "to dos" but we hadn't crossed that bridge yet. BUT HEY, GREAT REMINDER.
[Maybe we should work up a list of clues for dogs that have questionable "paperwork" if any. For example, the two RPK dogs I've seen have very different shoulder musculature than a TDR dog, and different shoulder structure which can be determined by palpation of the spine and shoulder joint]
I started with a recommendation for a good thorough vet visit.
I know a couple in the area
THANK YOU again, for good thinking and help.

You're very welcome ^_^ I just like people to really know what they have so they can have a better understanding of what to expect (like any possible health issues for example).firleymj wrote:THANK YOU. It was on my list of "to dos" but we hadn't crossed that bridge yet. BUT HEY, GREAT REMINDER.

Re: Indika (Tamaskan Dog) - Home Program - Hamilton, OH
Hi - was in touch with the owner, and he seems reluctant (reasonable enough in the circumstances) to part with her now. He's asserting she's not really a Tamaskan, but was legally classified as one on the grounds that the local jurisdiction had a breed category for "Tamaskan" and not for "hybrid" (I know the municipalities involved) and find this claim a little strained. Anyway, I wished him luck and am updating this record just to bring people on the forum up to speed on the situation.

I hope to hear more about this as soon as possible. I am also glad that she was not identified as a wolfdog hybrid or that could have lead to a one way ticket to pts.

Re: Indika (Tamaskan Dog) - Home Program - Hamilton, OH
I should be clear on something - The owner of the dog in question is a person recently dispossessed as the result of an apartment fire. It may be that his first thought was "I have no where to live and for the good of my dog have to give her up." Then, as a result of the trauma or possibly an improvement in his circumstances, (maybe he found somewhere that would allow him to keep the dog), he regretted the decision and now claims the animal is a high-content hybrid to discourage someone taking his beloved dog from him. (I am very skeptical of the description of Indika's "registration" to start with, and as I understand it, he's refusing calls from local folks on the adoption and he tries to discourage the non-locals with this presentation)
I don't blame the owner - to lose your property and your home in a day is beyond my experience, if not beyond a sympathetic imagination. But at least be cautioned that if you do inquire, you may get some less than consistent responses.
