Guess the Animal...???

Post by issylupus » Sat Jun 09, 2012 5:52 pm

I love these guessing games even though I'm fairly crap at them.
This was a game I use to play with the kid's when I ran a wildlife club.
We're all big kids at heart, so let's play it here....

I'll do the same as "Guess the Tamaskan" and the correct winner get's to post the next animal.

The first one is quite easy, just to get the ball rolling. 8-) Please refraine from Google'ing for the answers.

I live in Africa and Aisia.
I have spots on my fur.
I am classed as both a carnivore and an Omnivore.
I am female but have a penis.
.
Who am I ???

Alright, I have a tough one:

-I'm a bizarre sea creature lurking in the Bathyal zone
-I am very squishy and have very short tentacles
-I am generally 6 feet (1.8 meters) in length, usually half a meter in width, and ~13 pounds (5.9 kg) in weight
-I am part of the Opisthoteuthidae family which has nearly 40 known species and 5 known genus
-I have transparent skin which I use to camouflage from the polychaetes, pelagic copepods, isopods, amphipods, and other crustaceans that I prey on.
-I am extremely intelligent and very sneaky by nature
-Females and males of my kind have different sizes of suction cups. Males possess an enlarged segment on one of their tentacles, similar to the hectocotylus arm of most cephalopods.
-A silly Disney character is named after my common name, except that character's a mammal while I'm not ;)

Guess who I am

You are VERY CLOSE, it IS a type of Octopus.

Here's another hint.
The Disney character flies but is not a bird. ;)
The name of the character has five letters
Fill in the blanks when you figure it out:

The creature is a _ _ _ _ _ Octopus.

To everyone else, I picked this animal on purpose to make you do research :P
I knew many of you wouldn't figure it out

Scuttle? That's the only bird I remember from Disney. LOL.

The Disney character does fly but he is not a bird ;) He's a heavy mammal who is often ridiculed and was basically created off of a play on a common joke or sarcastic statement. The name has only two vows
His name is named after this mystery animal who is a type of octopus. I'll post a picture of it if no one finds out or if someone guesses the name correctly. Wow I really didn't think this would prolong!

I am a herbivore that lives in rainforests.
My appearance is unique among mammals.
I was once referred to as a 'unicorn'.

Fit the bill completely, with being a mammal that lives in the forest and is often refereed to as a unicorn. Now I am curious to know what it is, I have heard of this animal but I cant think of the name.

I did look up Saola's on wikipedia and yes, it indeed fits the bill perfectly. lol. I want a kirin. :o But then again, I also want a mini dragon - pocket size! Haha.

I'll wait a bit to see if anyone else wants to wager a guess before throwing out more hints.

I'm just going to throw out ... Okapi ?
But I doubt it. Never heard of it as a unicorn.

But that Dumbo Octopus would give me nightmares if I ever saw one up close!

The okapi was called the "african Unicorn" so you can be right because it also lives in the eastern montane rainforests
It would also be my first guess. But because you have that i will guess : the Oryx

Thats pretty cool looking, have to admit!
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
.............................................................
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Oh rest assure they are too far from your reach but those creatures in captivity are actually pretty friendly. I've met one before in Vietnam's Buddhist park. It didn't dare to touch me. It's a shy animal that generally stays away from humans (if they enter its turf through submarine) but once they get used to you they'll swim towards you and even show curiousity to other people.
The Okapi does make a chimera-like appearance the way it has many features that cause people to see it as an amalgamation of different organisms. I freaked out at a platypus even more.

The Chiling (or Kirin in Japanese) may actually be a possible to create chimera at some point in the distant future along with wyverns and many other organic mythical creatures that don't exist today. Perhaps using the genes of current existing chimeras today in the ocean we MIGHT be able to create flying companions. Just a little thought, anyways back on topic, who wants to go next?
