Am I really stepping on other people's culture?

So yesterday I shared this petition on facebook asking for the banning of the dog-meat consumption in Yulin. Immediately, my own kid-brother along with two of my cousins started posting retorts at me for "supporting people who are being invasive of other peoples' cultures and doings."

I thought maybe some of you may have an opinion on this?

Personally I find this too touchy of a subject to answer on a public forum ;)

It's a difficult one, on the one hand in a culture where dogs are companions etc it's understandable that the idea of eating them makes me feel uneasy, however, to other cultures cows are sacred, what must they think of us? I imagine they experience the same feeling of shock? Outrage? I can accept that to some people dogs are food, after all if I want them to accept the fact that I eat cattle or pigs, it's only fair I try and accept their differing view. I don't have to like it, but they're not forcing me to eat dog, now the methods of killing those dogs, and the conditions they're raised in are another matter.
