Kana Pups 1 Sept 2012

Post by Tarheel » Tue Sep 04, 2012 2:05 pm

Tarheel Corolla Dune (Kana Ti') gave birth to 4 puppies on 1 Sept 2012. We were expecting about 8 puppies according to the x-rays taken 2 weeks prior. Kana gave birth to 4 puppies then stopped birthing any more pups. Concerned, we took her to the emergency vet and they did another x-ray. This x-ray showed one additional puppy lodged transversly in the birth canal. Kana had to have a c-section to remove the lodged pup. The lodged puppy was the last remaining puppy and sadly did not survive.

Kana and her four pups are doing well. She had 2 boys and 2 girls.

Gorgeous pups... it's a shame that the last one didn't make it but definitely a good thing that you opted for a cesarean section. Vega also had to have a cesarean for her first litter but she did recover very quickly and the vet said it shouldn't have too much of an impact on future fertility, though it may increase the risk that she might need another cesarean in the future...

Anyway, these pups are all wonderful and I'm looking forward to following their progress as they grow and develop. :D

Beautiful babies! It's a shame the last one did not make it, but I'm sure these little ones will be fantastic!

I was thinking, when the pups are older and before they go off to their new homes, maybe you can gather all three parents and the puppies into a probably once in a lifetime family photo. Now that will be a good memory to keep. The Tarheel 2nd Generation pack :D

Alright scratch that. My second suggestion is just Jaeger and Kana alone with their pups since we already have pictures of Sequoia with her four.

Had a bit of a scare with Kana yesterday. I went to check on her and the pups in the afternoon, and she had pulled out all of her staples from her c-section 3 days prior. I got her up to our local vet and they sedated her, cleaned up her incision again, and this time they sewed her up with Stainless Steel. They said their is no way she will be getting those stiched out. This was some heavy duty wire. The Vet tech assisting was having difficulties cutting the wire with her wire cutters. All is fine now, and the wire stitches are still holding up.

First off, congrats on the litter. Freyja is an aunt! :)
Second, I'm happy to hear she is okay after both her c-section and the re-stitching. Ouch!
Gosh, John, you're dogs are going to make you require therapy :D

Oh My!! Stitches open is no fun at all!

There was a Shiloh litter not that long ago that was c-section and the stitches on that female did not hold or were removed by her, either way the owner walked in to find the dogs insides partially exposed! Talk about panic. The dog was taken into their vets and re-stitched and all was well. That is one experience I can live without experiencing for myself! :o

Hope Kana and babies are doing well, and that you recovered from your panic! Don't develop a twitch on us.lol

How is she doing now? That must be quite scary! Hopefully she doesn't start biting in the new ones! And how are the puppies doing?

Kana is doing well. The Stainless Steel Wire stitches appear to be more than she can chew and pull out. The puppies are doing great and both Kana's litter and Sequoia's are keeping me busy. I will try to get updated pictures as they are growing fast and changing every day.

How is Jaeger with his pups? I know you already said that he's been gentle with the Sequoia puppies but I hope he is at least aware of his own weight when hanging with his children after hearing about him leaping on to you while on the couch :?
