Hello my name is colin i'm originally from Glasgow Scotland now living in canada, me and my girlfriend melissa are waiting to collect our pup and was looking for info as our pup is part german sheperd and part wolf/husky, now these breeds mixed seem to make up that of the tamaskan and the british utonagan (obviously without being registered) as the mother is german sheperd and the father is genuine WOLF/husky.

so my question is does he fall more into the tamaskan bracket or utonagan ? unregistered of course, and what is the diff between the 2 breeds as toi me they seem the exact same ?

Hi Welcome to the forum, I will look forward to you posting some photos of your pup when you get him/her. I am not an expert, but I don't think your pup will fall into either the Tamaskan or Utonagan as neither contain any wolf, well the true Tamaskans don't, I don't know much about the Utonagan so can not comment on those. I think there is a thread on here about the differences between Tamaskans and the other wolf look alike breeds, and I am sure someone with a better knowledge of where things are on the forum will post a link for you.

yeah, i don't think that it would fall under either nither

(ok, i got one of those words wrong but it's late and my brain has a Do not disturb for the night

). low wolf content? i don't see wolf in dad but the pics ar a tad fuzzy so could just be that. how exactly does mum turn round in that pen?

it's so tiny...

@ terriholt - yes bit of a bad pic but the father is wolf husky mix and you can see it clearly in him in person he is rather large and has the orange eyes like a wolf will try and get a clearer pic of him, just about to leave to go see the pup so will see if i can get one of him,

the pen is actually rather large there is a bigger space behind me where i'm standing taking the pic its just where the kennel is positioned in the pen.

Your pup is very cute, looking forward to photos.

Your pup would not fall under either the Tamaskan or Utonagan because both breeds are only wolf look a-likes without any wolf content. They are both made up from huskies, some German Shepherd and Malamute in the farther pedigrees, and some Northern Inuit (also no wolf content) and the Tamaskan has also some Utonagan that helped make the breed.
I do agree with TerriHolt in thinking that the father looks like a low content, but again may very much be the photo and I'm not one with experience in phenotyping, but still looking forward to more photos!

got a pic of Hemi again tonight and again its on my ipod so its not a good pic, but it shows him a bit more than the other pic and maybe he does have low content wolf in him but this pic does shout part wolf to me lol.

here is a pic of our boy nanook with one of his sisters

and one of him a last week all dirty from throwing himself in his dinner bowl lol, and it is surprising how much a week makes in their size and weight lol

ummyea, noooooo. still don't see it... there are a lot of cases where someone has blieved they are buying a dog with wolf content but has little to none. i was going to ask if you have seen daddys papers but RPK has proved they mean nothing in some cases... should he be chewing his back end like that? last dog i saw doing that had worms... my GSD used to do it with fleas too...

Yes I can say aggressive response as I have established the English language for a number of years now and, no that wasn't one.

would imply question with the ? at the end and the sentence starting with should! Which usually results in an answer not "WTF". Now starting the sentence with "he does", that would mean I’m implying...

And I asked because that doesn't look normal to me. now, if anyone else posted picture of their dog 'itching' like that it wouldn't automatically look out of the norm because all the dogs are in huge areas running round not with mum caged in a cage smaller than my bath (and I got a pretty small bath). It isn’t my fault your pics make the dog's look like they live in substandard and raise questions. I was asking a question instead of making up my own mind based on what I can see because you said there is more to the pen then that... and I did have more lined up but since it raises defenses, I won't bother. except

i was going to ask why you would think your 'wolf' x husky x GSD would fall under a tamaskan... or the utonagan for that matter? when tams have no wolf and if i'm not mistaken neither does the utonagan. well, more how you got the impression it would be somewhere close...

I have seen them in their natural habitat but not in person. A friend in USA used to send me small clips but to see them in my back yard in the UK? Now you're talking silly

As for Hemi, rest assured, he is very well taken care of. He gets regular check-ups and has had all necessary boosters, as well as de-worming pills when he was a puppy. The pic is simply him nawing at an itch on his hind quarters.

Also, I see from the pic of Reba that the pen she is in does look small, but it is rather spacious. The angle of the pic does not give the actual pen any justice. Reba and the puppies have alot of room and they are all very well taken care of. In all honesty I would be the first person to raise the question of inadequate living space when it comes to any pet, as well as cleanliness of such space.

I understand the questions raised by some of the pics, and the fact they are a bit unclear.....a pic does not always speak 1000 words, case in point, this time they didn't.

Welcome to the forum. Your pup is very cute. And as stated earlier, neither the Tamaskan nor the Utanogan have any wolf content in them. The Tamaskans looks come strictly from careful breeding looking for certain temperments and certain physical characteristics.

As for this thread on whether dad has wolf content or not - it is hard to say. I've had the opportunity to see and touch several wolfdogs. Sometimes its not only outward appearance, but other things that help wolfdog experts phenotype wolfdogs. Trust me - I am no expert. However, in my very limited experiences, some of the more obvious differences were coat texture, bone structure and the teeth. Some of these are hard to tell from a picture. At any rate - your puppy is adorable!!

Welcome! Very cute pup

The dad really doesn't look to have much wolf content to me, and unfortunately misrepresentation is HUGE in the wolfdog world (it seems like MOST breeders are misrepping their animals, very sad). He could be low content but I'm not really seeing any wolfy traits.

However, that wouldn't make your pup any less special! He's gorgeous.
