Am Tam & Shiba owner in MT

Post by Aeiou » Tue May 01, 2012 6:40 am

Before I say too much I just wanted to say yes, I have two dogs from a very controversial breeder but I'm not looking for drama. And it's obviously too late to change my mind so let's just hope my dogs live long healthy lives! I also know I have an "American Tamaskan" and not a Tamaskan from the TDR but I still figured I'd share and I'm sure some of the knowledge on here will help me out. Although supposedly my Am Tam's grandmother is Tundra so he does have some Tamaskan in him, and I think it shows.

Anyway, I'm from PA, lived in NC for a year, got married into the Air Force and moved to MT for our first base and we will be here until Dec (just over a year, I move too much!) when we will go to Japan! I have a black and tan Shiba Inu, Kiba, who will be 2 yrs on July 2nd and an Am Tam, Torben, who will be 6 months on the 3rd.

I don't have a decent recent photo of the two of them so here's one froma couple weeks ago around 21 wks old
Image

Here's a recent of Torben:

And a FB album of Torben growing so far

Torben's sire is a very long haired Am Tam, I'm hoping Torben's fur doesn't get too much longer, I prefer medium. Although a lot of people seem to think that if it's this long at 6 months that he will get sort of shaggy :C I guess only time will tell.

Welcome. Your dogs are nice looking. I don't think I've seen a shiba that colour before.

Welcome! You have beautiful dogs but I never would have guessed that was a shiba! You are so lucky to get to move to Japan! One day I'll get there too... (Only for holidays unfortunately!)

Hello there and welcome to the forum.
To be honest I don't care where your dogs came from but they are beautiful dogs and I hope to learn more about the two. You've come to the right place to learn more about the Tamaskan breed.

Welcome to the forum. I think your Am Tam has a good length of coat from the picture...
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Welcome to the forum. I think both your dogs are very nice-looking and I agree that it doesn't matter where they came from as long as they are giving you love and affection :)

Thanks everyone! Sorry works been so exhausting lately(both mentally and physically) I feel pretty antisocial a lot haha so I took my time replying

@ Kylievr Yeah there are three acceptable shiba colors, The famous Red, Black and Tan, and Sesame (my favorite but seems harder to find). Then there's cream which is disqualifying. There's a deep japanese meaning to their white markings.

@Skyedream is it because he is muttly :p or his color? He is definitely not 'standard' and probably has a few disqualifying traits. A bit taller and heavier than most shibas. And I'll be on Okinawa island. Really excited to experience the culture for a few years, although super nervous about the move, mostly for the dogs.

@Tarheel Sorry to hear about what's happening with your pack, I'm going to do my best to spread the donation link around

@blufawn Thanks! I think the length it's at is good as well, it's just that his dad is: http://www.tamaskan.com/testimonials201 ... 10/entry14 extremely long coat so it'll be interesting to see how he and his brothers coat turn out (I only know of one sibling)

And thanks again to everyone else, hopefully I'll start posting around more. He just hit 6 months on the 3rd.

Hairy babies arent very common, but they can happen. I think there are 4 hairy monsters in the Tamaskan breed that I know of...... Here is mine

They are both lovely but I dont think their coat will be 'long' just very thick with nice length but not long. ;)
