introduction

Post by wendy » Sun May 13, 2012 11:31 am

new to tamaskan breed
my husband loves the thought of a wolf-dog, I wouldn't mind except for the size of our huge extended family and lots of little ones still around. Looking for a "safe" alternative, with the same look......and then we found the Tamaskan, through the tragic story of the NC Tarheels mascot story.
would love to know everything there is to know about the breed, quirks and all.
currently have a 13 year old Choc Lab NM, 8 year old ACD NM, and a 2 year old in tact female NSDTR
we feed raw and do as much homeopathically as possible within the guidelines of the law
any imput is appreciated

Duck tollers are lovely looking tan/red medium sized. They look a bit like a spaniel. They were on my second dog list before I got Tala.

Random video off Youtube.

As for ACD... I thought that was a behavioural disorder !!!  or is it "Australian cattle dog" or "A Cannan dog" ???

Hi Wendy, welcome to the forum. You've come to the correct place to learn more about the breed.

The NC tragedy... that is quite an unpleasant start for you to learn about us but thank you for your interest in the breed. You can learn more about it in these links:

The Winconsis pair have rescued many dogs in the past, some of them being related to Tamaskans.

The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is a good breed for hunting aquatic animals and shares a common breed ancestry with the Dutch Kooikerhondje. They were introduced to the aboriginal people in the 19th century and were used to assist in bringing down ungulates shot with a gun as well as carrying small tools when not hunting and some were used as gatherers. An old lady I know working at a video game booth used to own one of those and told me about the breed's origin and how a pack owned by her neighbour helped her catch lots of fish as she had trouble wheeling them in on her rod. ;)
Anyways, I'll let this topic rest

One is Evil. It’s anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies and ego.
The other is Good. It’s joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness and truth.
