International move with two adult Tams!

Post by Kelly » Wed Apr 13, 2011 10:06 am

I'm getting Loki and Freja ready for their big move from Scotland to Vermont. It looks like Loki is too big to fit in the Sky Vari Kennel Giant. He's just slightly too tall and way too long! Any advice on custom crates approved for airline travel?
thanks, Kelly

Try contacting the airlines. If they don't have anything available at the airline, they may be able to suggest something.

Too bad Pet Airways is not international yet... what about a custom built wood crate that could fit both dogs together? Maybe they would be more relaxed if they were in the same crate, if it were allowed (depends on the airline and their regulations).

They would probably be a lot more relaxed if they could be together, but I'm not sure if the airlines will allow that.

Kelly - we've just used Pat at Skymasters to fly our boys to Australia and she was fantastic. Fully recommend her :)

Pat is definately the way to go.

I am arranging more flights out now with her and she couldnt be more helpful which is why I have stayed with her throughout all my house moves.

Two more Tams in Vermont? Oh really? Kira and I take Sophie and Rhea up to my mother in law's place near Burlington all the time. Where will y'all be?

We made it to the US and all is well!
We ended up flying them on the same plane as us from Edinburgh to Newark and it was arranged through Helen at Extrordinair at Edinburgh airport and they were very helpful. The drive from Newark to my parents house in New Hampshire was very tiring though.
As the plane started taxiing in Edinburgh I could hear Loki barking in the cargo hold. The stewardess said that was the first time she ever heard the dogs in the cargo. I don't think Loki was too happy as he ripped up the inside of his crate a bit. But they were both very happy to see us when we finally found them at the pet safe counter in terminal C!

So far they love it here in New Hampshire! Well, everything except the mosquitos and the humidity. Lots of new smells and critters and lots and lots of woods. They are getting lots of attention from people wanting to know what breed they are.

Hi White Elk Stag,
from August we will be living in Hinesburg VT, 20 minutes south of Burlington, so we should meet up sometime. We don't have our cell phones yet, but will get them shortly. I'm sure Loki and Freja would love to meet other Tams!

Oh wow, you're moving to VT? I grew up there! In Huntington actually, right next to where you'll be.

Yes we should definitely meet up some time!
If you're in the area, I'll actually be swinging through town (with the puppies) on Saturday to pick up a car. Message me and I'll send you my phone number.

Glad to hear you arrived safely... any plans for the pitter-patter of tiny Loki/Freja puppy paws in the near future? Would be a nice addition to US bloodlines :)

Welcome to the US. Hopefully we will get to meet you at a Tamaskan gathering in the future. I also like the sound of Loki/Freya pups here in the US!!
