Any updated viewpoints/recommendations in 2024+ on grain-free kibble?

Post by Antilles »

I've noticed this forum is unfortunately not as active as it was 10 yrs ago. The general viewpoints back then was to go raw/barf and if you can't/want to do a combination both, go high quality grain-free kibble (Origen, etc.).

Since 2018/2019 the FDA reported grain-free (and other factors) were causing heart complications (dilated cardiomyopathy/DCM) in dogs and cats (mainly larger breeds of dogs) and maybe not as great once thought. https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/o ... iomyopathy

Since 2013 to now 2024, Origen has had a downfall and not the same company as before in 2013.

Some questions:

1) Are the original reason for wanting to go grain-free for tamaskans because of the nutritional benefits (less filler/processed garbage) and/or because of the notoriously sensitive stomachs of tamaskans, hence making grain-free kibble something they could tolerate as a kibble option?

2) Has anyone updated their opinions on grain-free diets since this new report of heart complications with grain-free kibble? And if so....

3) Would you still recommend a grain-free kibble like Origen, Arcana, or TOTW contrast to traditional ("vet-certified") brands like Hills and Royal Canine?
